Ooooops . . . big typo by me.

Garden is about 2,500 square feet . . . not 250.

The 250 is approximate square meters which Ochka can better understand.

Wayne, you don't get to be invited to be a member of a jury unless you are registered to vote.

As for Russian and Ukrainian court systems, one of the reasons there are few juries is that cases are often decided by a 'panel' of judges.

There is a zillion ways to get on a jury list, the most common is voters lists but
DMV lists are also very common among others. It's far too boring to paste the
details here in ML's thread but if you follow the link and read 197 a, b and c
then you can see all the various methods they have to constitute a jury list.

My wife was called for jury duty.
Like Bill mentioned, there are several ways to get on the  mailing list.

I've been gone for months in the past too. Anybody wonder if I were dead? Anybody wish I were dead? Hopefully Gator's enjoying life.

Hopefully he's just enjoying life.  Daveman and GQBlues have been missing for a lot longer.  Nobody seems too worried about them, either.

Ochka went to her first 'closing' with me today, as we sold another acre parcel where new house will be built.

She couldn't believe the stack of papers nearly an inch thick that buyers had to sign with respect to their loan.

And, she wasn't happy when I told her how much in income taxes we were going to pay.  Cost basis was only about 5 percent of the sales price.

A newer (but used) farm pickup may be in the offing.
Current one has some very rusted cross members under the bed.

Many pick ups are not cheap anymore.

But many rich drive large American SUV's

Ochka tried to scam me today.

We went out for a lunch meal at Cracker Barrel, and afterwards she asked me to drive by the airport.

While there, she jumped out of car, grabbed 2 suitcases, went in and got on airplane for a trip back to Ukraine to visit with family and friends for a month.

Ha . . . but the joke is on her because I paid for the meals with a debit card on her bank account that I took from her purse when she went to ladies room.

A gal has to get up pretty early in morning to pull one over on me . . . a long time reader on RWD who knows about the scams these FSU gals run.

Air France is giving some very good prices on tickets from Kyiv - Paris - direct to several cities in USA now.

Even for travel during this peak summer period.

2-3 Flight daily between Paris - Kyiv.

Some on AF and some on Ukraine International.

They are partners with Delta, so some flights Paris to and from USA are on Delta and some on Air France.

But the tickets booked through AF are $300-400 cheaper than the exact same tickets booked through Delta.

The ticket prices on the AF website are a couple of dollars cheaper than any price found for the exact same flights on any of the 'cheap fare' websites.

Just booked round trip ticket for Ochka to return to USA in early August . . . and go back to Ukraine in mid May 2016.

AF - Delta now fly direct Paris to:

Atlanta
Boston
Cincinnati
Chicago
Detroit
Houston
Los Angeles
Miami
Minneapolis
New York
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Salt Lake City
San Francisco
Seattle
Washington, DC

Nor sure I will ever fly on Air Chance (Air France) again unless I can tolerate a couple of days with no luggage at the destination.  I would have to think about the $300-$400 savings vs the inconvenience.    I still prefer the LAX - Amsterdam- Kiev flight.  Lots of sleep time.  LOL

Terrorists, scammers and hackers continue to cause problems for we ordinary folks.

Much of this trouble comes from actions of companies, etc., who are trying to protect us from terrorists, scammers and hackers.

Example:

As soon as Ochka tried to access her gmail account after arrival in Ukraine . . . gmail denied access because it was worried the log in attempt came from a different country.

I was able to log into her account here in USA, and after a lot of checking and hassles, initiated some settings that will allow her to access from Ukraine . . . BUT . . . this will only take effect after 7 days.

In the past, I travelled a lot to different countries and didn't have this type of trouble accessing gmail and other email accounts.

But, it seems things are changing.

Anyone else encounter this sort of thing?

Previously we needed to tell our credit/debit card issuers about travel plans.  Now we need to tell email carriers as well.

Hi ML,

This is done for security reasons. It is a pain in the a**. Basically, when you set up an email (Gmail, Outlook), you give them your mobile phone number and they send you a code to verify that you are you.

If you then access your account from a different device/IP Address/Country, they want to send another code to your mobile device to verify you are the one accessing. I hate this, but it is the world we live in. Not sure if you can contact them before the trip to avoid this. This is called "Multi-factor Authentication" if you want to Bing/Google it. :)

Hope this helps,
HDL

Thanks.

But we refuse to give phone numbers when gmail asks for it.

And, even if we did give phone number to gmail, it wouldn't help for this situation because we use entirely different phones in Ukraine compared to what we use in USA.

Just as gmail freaked when she tried to access from Ukraine, it would likely also freak if we remembered to change the phone number from USA to Ukraine number.

It’s not so important when one arrives, what’s key is that one eventually does turn up.

With the above in mind, many congrats ML and Ochka. :)

p.s. I didnt read all the thread so I'm hoping you're still together;)

Hi Vinny, haven't seen you around much for awhile . . . at least not in my threads.

Not sure what you are referring to  'eventually does show up.'

Anyway, we are still together . . . at least as of about an hour ago when we talked on Skype.

Hi,

Me UK and my girlfriend Taiwan are in a similar situation.
I do know from experience of another chap who got married and tried registering in Taiwan. He found the people within the government offices hard to talk to as they needed certified proof that he hadnt been married before. This is actually quite a hard thing to prove when you think about it, they got his birth certificate and then needed to go to a solicitor for a written statement that he had not been married before. However, reading your post it seems likely that you are getting married in the UK first then registering in Taiwan, this is the opposite way round of my case story and I hope it all goes well and you have a great wedding.
It has been a while since you posted this note... maybe you are married already in which case congratulations. I found your previous posts and was interested because I am experiencing the same things in my life, having a relationship where my girlfriend lives far away and we skype a lot. I have some questions like:

Did you find a job in Taiwan?
What job is your girlfriend going to find in the UK?
What are your plans for the future?

Any advice would be great.

yaricksl,

I recommend that you start a new thread in the immigration and visa section here
http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?board=7.0

ML, is an American and his wife is Ukrainian and neither of them were married in Taiwan
and the laws of USA, Ukraine, Taiwan and the UK are all different.

However, I recommend that you start a new thread in the immigration and visa section here
http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?board=7.0

I would title the thread, UK man marries in Taiwan advice please and you will probably get
some valuable advice.

Just saw the post.

No idea where the Taiwan thing came from.  I was there a hundred years or so ago as a young man serving 4 years in US Navy.

Thanks Bill for setting him straight.
