Perhaps.  But I suspect overwhelming desire to keep Crimea and the other 4 oblasts annexed.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

2024 is
the year when President Vladimir Putin finishes his
constitutionally mandated fourth and last term in office
and is supposed to be the moment when Russia gets a new
leader for the first time in more than two decades.

supposed to be...
and that's what THIS war is REALLY about!!!!

cuz Rasputin wanted to make a NEW LAW by then, that would make him more of a permanent king than an elected President, but in order to get the Duma to pass this new law, he'd have to show WHY he was worthy of such a title of CZAR of ALL THE RUSSIAS
hmmmmm.....

Rasputin wanted to "resurrect greater Russia"
by employing the time-honored method, of how "how to create wealth"
by stealing it from your neighbors
simple, steal Ukraine's land and people
and hand out goodies to your supporters and clan

but...
a funny thing happened on the way to the forum
and the plan has to be revised

meanwhile wife's Russian relatives are digging fox holes up in Northern Crimea and freezing their jhoppas off!!!

footnote:
couple of years ago, Russians offered me a "shitload(literally)" of Gazprom stock in exchange for "consulting"

back then the P/E ratio was 4, now look it's 2.24!!!!!  WTF!!!!
how's it possible?
after invetigating annual reports, I see why...
there's an OLIGARCH TAX!!!
every big company in Russia has an oligarch tax
THAT'S WHY THE RUSSIAN ECONOMY IS PHUQED
oligarch taxes are too damned high
and suck too much out of the rest of the economy
much of the money went "offshore" so other Russians can't steal it!!!

http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GAZP.ME/

*oligarch tax
the percentage of the company profits that is syphoned off by the oligarch owner
sometimes oligarchs take ALL the money and don't even pay employees!!
keepitallism

poor Russians will die by the tens of thousands in Ukraine to maintain this oligarchic system that benefits about 500 families in Russia headed by Vlad Putin
by its nature, the oligarch system must either grow or die (beacuse it consumes itself)
now two forces are ripping Russia, the war, and the cannabalistic oligarchic consumption of Russia
THANK YOU ANCESTORS FOR LEAVING UKRAINE!  SPOSSIBA BOLSHOI!!!
I'll be in the jungle of Costa Rica suurounded by the local village nymphettes who call me "los blanco diablo"
collecting poison dart frogs and growing cannabis while granchildren are soldering drone controller boards in the back of the villa
sweet...
