Hi, Me and my Russian girlfriend after 20 months.
« on: February 25, 2018, 09:03:57 PM »
Hi, I'm living in California. I've been with my Russian Girlfriend from St. Petersburg for almost 20 months. I'm trying to understand Russian culture and how to deal with my girlfriend when we are getting to argument and fight about my family.

What sort of fights do you have about your family?

I don't think this is cultural, for the most part.  It comes down to the individual.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Welcome to the forum Pamenar. Do you talk about your family a lot? If she thinks you're a mamma's boy, that could result in arguments. If she thinks you love your family more than her, that could result in arguments. She may feel threaten by your family. She may be immature and if you marry her, she will tell you that you can't see your family and friends. If you don't evaluate what is going on properly, living with her could be hell if she's the problem or if you are causing problems, she may eventually leave you. Many women want a man who's independent and will focus on his family.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Its really simple.

If you have experience with American women, you know that  American women want to be told when they are wrong because they want to improve.

RW are different.  They are so perfect they can not be improved.  Thus, before an  argument erupts, you need to say "Yes, darling."

Sounds like truth to me :D

Nekrasov, Russian poet of the XIX century, said: "The Russian woman can stop a galloping horse and enter a burning house".

You better be careful. Stay wise and keep calm
Flowers, chocolate...good sence of humour can sometimes calm us down.

You can always ask what is considered wrong from her point of view. And discuss whether it is worth an argument. Or are there other ways to solve it. Good luck

Hi Elena, I have been contemplating on furthering my postgraduate education at universities in Russia (student visas can last for years hence my interest :D ).

I was wondering whether you could elaborate on the Higher Education system in Russia? For instance, Are most top institutions located in Moscow? How hard is the selection process and entry into good universities? Are there different tiers of universities? If so, how would the universities be ranked like? How about specialised institutions like Maurice Thorez Institute for Foreign Languages or MGIMO?

I'm happy to continue our conversation through personal message (pm) or start a new thread whichever suits you.

You have a fascinating mind for debates and I'm sure you'll make a compelling lawyer if you so wanted. Looking forward to hearing from you Elena :)
Sincerely,
Kyn
