Lyapis Trubetskoy - This Friday (May 29)!

(Cocomo, 21+ Only, 650 Indiana St., San Francisco, CA, Doors 8PM)

Only a few days are left till "space clowns" of art-rock-pop-ska-punk band will share their Belarusian love with San Francisco. This is going to be one hot party to start your summer with! There will be enough drive and hits for those who remember their old-days glory, and for those who can't wait to hear new social punk live.

The concert at Cocomo will start with BOCTOK-ZAPAD - and then will continue with the immediate after-party led by DJ Stranger.

Don't miss live performance by the First Lady of Ural Rock! Headliner of Ekho festival, legendary Nastya Poleva ("Nastya") is back in San Francisco to play an acoustic set with Egor Belkin, well-known lead guitarist of Urfin Juice and Nautilus Pompilius. Join us for the night of mesmerizing tunes, beautiful lyrics and sweet nostalgia.  From the start of her singing career with Nautilus Pompilius, Nastya's mysterious voice brought to life romantic hypnotizing images in her songs. Her musical experiments are never predictable, yet all of them are tied together by the captivating combination of seemingly reserved sound and suddenly revealing emotional surge. Don't miss a chance to enjoy Nastya's live performance on June 14.

Leonid Fedorov (AuktYon) - June 21
Only few days are left until breath-taking solo performance of Leonid Fedorov, leader of legendary AuktYon! In this mind-melting avantgarde musical exploration Fedorov is creating a unique emotional experience. Synergy of guitar, Fedorov's immediately recognizeable voice and expressive lyrics take audiences around the world to unwandered path of imagination. Avant-jazz, folk, rock and experimental melodies blend in one seamless stream of conscience that unites performer with audience.

The concert will start a bit later than usual to celebrate the shortest night of the year.

Opening act is played by the most avantarde local band Varona.

Saturday there's a documentary on Russia's "goluboy vagon" as part of the Frameline film fest. Come see it with us and/or come to Cafe Prague for some eastern-european food.

We'll meet/greet from 11am at Cafe Prague (17th & Mission, then walk over for the 11:45am film at the Roxie (16th & Valencia).

At 1:30pm we'll head back to Cafe Prague - you can join us here if you're skipping the film.

East/West - Sex & Politics (German documentary, in Russian with English subtitles)
Both in 2006 and 2007, the Gay Pride Parade attempts in Moscow are violently beaten down. For many observers, the attitude towards the sexual minorities seems to be the lacmus paper test of the state of democracy in Russia. In January 2007, for the first time in Russian history, a Russian leader, president Vladimir Putin mentions the situation of the LGBT community: He won’t criticize the politics of Moscow mayor Yuri Lushkov, who forbid the event, but he is concerned about the demographic future of the country. And Putins opinion seems to be repeated by the right wing contra demonstrators on the streets. The film shows both the organizers of the Pride events and also the survival strategies of the majority Russian lesbians and gays, to whom the fight for democracy on the streets doesn’t seem to be an attractive alternative.

Holy Mackerel!

I hope Sculpto, or any of our peers in NoCal was NOT affected by this tragedy. Unbelievable the devastation this caused!

I noticed Sculpto did not respond to this comment, but I have touched base with him since then and although it is near SF--it is in an area know as the Peninsula.  Horrible business this unmaintained, poorly designed pipeline infrastructure in California.  Profit model must work for PG&E or else they wouldn't do it this way.
