Things I miss about Russia - 1/ Oladushki
« on: February 23, 2020, 03:01:04 AM »
I was introduced to Oladushski - the experience of cooking them and eating at home by V ( former RU wife) ... who makes v.tasty Oladushki ...

I like Crumpets for breakfast and have tried to make them at home.. FAIL

So, this morning I'm going TRY and make them - using this recipe with Kefir

What do I miss?

The vegetables and the juice, the sour cream. Russia sour cream is slightly
more flavorful than American sour cream and it's slightly less firm.

Luckily for me, it will be a comfortable 69F (+20C ) today and we will get
some gardening done. Angel Eyes grows excellent vegetables.

haha, in the village called Shevchenko where I created the Rancho Del Krimster
every local village gopnick carried a pocket full of oladushski, it was like a "poor man's candy"
they would offer it to you and you have to be polite and eat some, and then say, "hmmmm oichen kuzna"
it was like a ritual....

plus, if the geese created a traffic jam in front of my compound, then some gopnick would throw some oladushski by the side of the road to get them out of the way
the worst most obnoxious users of the dirt road in front of my compound were the geese, but they were our security guards
and would honk loudly if any person or animal would invade our land at night, alerting our subaki
inter-species cooperation
until I ate them all! (not the dawgs!)
