I might add in a city known for scammers he was the first person there I met in the flesh. So call this a one man crusade against a city with a bad reputation, that as it turns out I have nothing but wonderful memories in largely because of him.

As for the reputation of Lugansk, it was tainted by being the home of a professional scam ring, just as Kazan is. A single scam operation can do more harm to a city as hundreds of good women will do good.

I have not met Alex in person but we have chatted regularly over yahoo for a long time.  He helped me flush out a probable scammer/GTG/pro dater I was corresponding with and gave some excellent strategies to expose her. 

I consider him a friend and if I happen to be in Ukraine again I will go out of my way to meet him.  He is an interesting and intelligent man who also happens to be interested in fixing broken things.

Yes, he has a crusade.  My perception is he loves his city and country and is disgusted by the corruption on all levels, not only by the marriage scammers.  If anyone is going to Lugansk they would be a fool not to contact him and use his services.

If you happen to be in lugansk Alex is a great contact there. I also would call him a friend and would agree with your assessment of him. If you get a chance to meet him you will enjoy it. as for the scam ring, shadow you are correct it is very sad what one group of people can do to the reputation of a city. As for me I met my fiance there so I of course like the city and all of those who helped me to meet her there, of which Alex played a major part of.

the information I had was given to someone I know who works for LE.  Haven't followed up in a while.  The main problem is that a considerable amount of the prostitution is taking place off US shores so it limits what LE can do.  But.. girls fishing for trips to the DR are a good place to start looking.. agencies that provide services of travel to DR to meet your "future wife" are also part of that game.

On the contrary.. we are in the process of building a website where she is writing about her experiences.  I am working on translations of the first installment which just went up a couple of days ago.  Other writers will be joining her site later on.  It should be an interesting project.  We are also meeting with some journalists in Mexico who are outside of the $$$ patronage mass media system there to foster cross cultural and solidarity of writers who are under threat of censorship and worse.

In 2005 I spent a whirlwind week in Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkiv.  There I spent some time waiting in the office of Cindy Agency, and watched the terps writing letters. 

A terp would call a UW and translate a letter that some man had written to her.  The terp took notes and composed a response in English to the man.

Nothing wrong with this unless it the man allows his mind to race to a fantasy.

I corresponded with three Cindy women (about 3-4 letters each).  During the initial meeting they admitted to never going to the office and looking at my photo.  Yet, each wanted a second meeting.  It seems that the women do not become keenly interested until a man shows up.  So many men talk about making the trip, yet never get on a plane.

I agree gator there is nothing wrong with what you saw, so long as the translater was writing the wishes of the woman she was speaking to. I think Alex, although I do not want to speak for him, is specifically not referrering to keyboard romeos, but to the people he is likely to meet who actually make the trip to discover the ruse after they arrive(the ruse being that whole letters were being fabricated without ever talking to the woman). Although being taken for a ride is not fun whether you've made the trip or not. I might go out on a limb to suggest its worse when you've actually spent the thousands of dollars to get there. Which I think is why its always good to take a few days out to sightsee so your total trip isn't a waste if things don't go right.

"Speaks English" is tongue in cheek?  Maybe, yet that does not diminish its importance.  After trying my best for over a year with a splendid, sincere RW who knew little English, I strongly recommend that a RW speaks at least "fair" English.

I have a profile on scanna.com but it has been dormant (I'm not paying) for some time. All of a sudden I started getting a buch of emails everyday when for months I hadn't recieved anything. When I checked the profiles almost all of them said the member was "Recently Active."
