Volunteering in Eastern Europe or ?
« on: November 26, 2009, 03:46:33 PM »
Hello,
I wasn't sure what category this fits into but I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
I returned to college again 2 years ago, & by the time I finish I'd like to be signed onto some international volunteer organization (the Peace Corp as one example) preferably in Eastern Europe- but not exclusively. I've sent letters to places like the Peace Corp but received no reply. I hope to help or “give back” by using my new skills as a radiographer/CT/MRI in the health care field. I've already registered for Russian language classes at a local university to better prepare me for this, though I am a little familiar with it already. BTW, I've traveled extensively in the FSU in the past & feel compelled to return again in another capacity, so I'm somewhat aware of what I'm getting into. You might say I left my heart over there somewhere…

I don't think it's possible.
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

Other volunteer medical organisations - though not operating in Eastern Europe, as far as I know - could be the French Médecins Sans Frontières (www.msf.org/) and our Emergency (http://www.emergency.it/index.php?ln=En). They are mostly active in 3rd world countries - Africa and Afghanistan, for instance - particularly for trauma victims, where your skills could be much appreciated and valuable.

I agree with Sandro completely and I very much admire your courage and devotion. Doctors without Borders can really use your help right now notably in Congo and Bangladesh. You can really step up to the plate today and apply here. This should immediately start your process.

We're very proud of you. Hopefully you can "help and give back" as soon as you can.

Doctors Without Borders might be a place to start looking )
