More Airport / Airline Questions
« on: December 20, 2009, 11:31:15 AM »
Never had this much difficulty arranging a trip before.

In the past flew from JFK direct to Kiev, or through various airports to Amsterdam, or Atlanta to Moscow.
Getting to Chernovtsy from where I'm at is proving quite difficult, as it seems the Paris transfer = high risk of missing a flight.  So now I'm looking at visiting friends for a few days and then flying from a different city altogether.

So here are my questions.

Flying through Vienna on Austrian Air to Lviv / Lvov may be an option.
Anyone been through the Vienna airport?  Not sure if 95 minutes is enough time between flights.
For that matter, not sure than 90 minutes is enough in Washington Dulles.

Another option is Munich to Lviv (by way of Charlotte NC) where I have 100 minutes between flights, and it's on Lufthansa  (which apparently has a very good reputation as far as airlines go).

Never been in any of the above airports, nor flown on those airlines (in the past Delta, Aeroflot, Aerosvit).

Would have much preferred flying directly to Chernovtsy, but it just doesn't look like it is going to work out.
Thanks.

I have transfered through Vienna. Not a real big airport and if your flights on time 95 minutes should be ok. In fact if I recall thats about the same amount of time I had for my transfer and it was easy to make.

Vienna is a small airport. And They have very strange translucent walls for toilets in one place ...

I support guys. Vienna airport is small and no queues. Everything is quickly.

Translucent toilets? I haven't seen that  :P
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

Are you buying seperate tiockets for each leg or do you have one ticket all the way to Lviv?

"Internal" to the US -- a separate ticket.  From US to LVIV and back, round trip.

OK, if you have a ticket from a Leaving from a US city and it goes all the way through to Lviv with a connection in Vienna, you should not have a problem, as the airlines won't schedule a plane change that doesn't allow enough time to make the connection. Your bags I assume will be checked all the way to Lviv from the departing airport in the US.

I used several times Vienna to go to Ukraine. It is ok, I would recommend it rather than big airports.

Particularly if you fly from US , you next flight might be in same terminal ( for non EC flights).

Have a good day !

Did an overnight there when I went through with Lufthansa.
Stayed downtown at the Hotel Karntnerhof....
It was really interesting

I sailed through Vienna, fast and easy.

If you have time there between flights, hop on a train and check out the city.  Nice sightseeing.  There is an express train from the airport to the city center.

If you get a chance you should think about an overnight stay in Vienna. It's a beautiful old city. I had an overnight there once. I met a nice girl from Kharkov who was going to meet her future husband somewhere in California. Anyways she talked me into going into the city. It was great even though I ended up carrying her kid most of the trip because he went to sleep or was too tired to walk.
The Charlotte airport will be no trouble whatsoever.
