Russian Train Crash
« on: November 28, 2009, 12:20:53 AM »
Death toll rising; last I heard a few minutes ago was that 39 are confirmed dead. More to come. Seems like there's still confusion about the cause and some people are claiming a terrorist attack while others saying it was derailment.

Changed the title as the train was nowhere near SPB. It's obviously far too early to be posting anything.  :-[

Terrorism has been confirmed; they found elements of an explosive device on the tracks (7kg TNT equivalent).

Passengers tell that for the first hours, NO AID was available on the site of the tragedy - the train personnel didn't even have suitable medical kits.  And that despite the fact that it's already the second derailment of Nevsky express (the first occurred in 2007).

 :( :( :(

This is very sad to hear on so many levels. I will never understand how killing a bunch of innocent people helps achieve any objective to anything at all. What did the people on this train do to harm anyone?

No medical kits? Did no one think that lord forbid they might be needed for an emergency? Sad very sad.

Terror is just that ,,terror. No logic,,,cowards who target men, women and children. When we went to Russia/Ukraine on the train I did take some basic stuff in my bag. I never did notice a first aid type kit anywhere. Makes you think about what to pack when you travel. If there is a first aid kit it would prob cost you $$$ to open it.
