The post is not to demonize a place/culture most of our significant other hail from, but we all have witnessed, and known about certain things in Russia that do shake us a bit occassionally.

This is a from an accident that happened in Russia. A woman driver hit two sisters. She then came out of the car, walked around it but never even bothered to check on the two women she hit. None of the bystanders did either. Unbelievable.

They said in the news that they are trying to find out what happened, and if the police decides it was her fault, she will face 5 years in prison! One of the women died...

It reminds me of that woman who fell off the metro rails and no one seemed to had even broken a stride.

Not even the drivers in the other cars stopped to help in this accident. The reactions of the FSU people do not surprise me. Many already live in a World of hurt. They do not have time to care for other people's hurt.

When there is a automobile accident that involves a fatality, someone must go to jail. It could be the guy at fault or the guy with the least amount of money to bribe the cop.

Several years ago, I was very involved with a woman from St. Petersburg. One night her 16yo daughter was driving down a snowy street with her boy friend at the wheel. The car did not have winter tires and where actually worn out. It was unsafe to drive this car. He attempted to pass another car and became involved in a head on collision because the car could not get enough traction. She died at the scene. Her boy friend, serioulsy injured, survived.

When the mother attempted to press charges aganist this man, and his family, for allowing this car on the road, the police did nothing. She told me on the phone..."life is cheap in Russia".

The news report that followed this accident said that the driver testified that she was in shock and was disoriented and didn't registered about the state of the victims. She was bloodied since she wasn't wearing a seat belt. She said she lost control of the vehicle after she drove over some tracks (I'm guessing she hit a patch of black ice) and couldn't control the car.

Billy, I thought the same as you. It was odd to see none of the others even slowed down to offer assistance. Even the resident in the building who opened the door, stepped-out, and glanced over the area - then just simply went back in and closed the door as if nothing happened.

Both ladies were actually still alive the entire time. The ambulance eventually arrived and one died in the hospital.

My wife was initially surprised about the possible 5 year sentence. I had to explain to her that in any accident there's the possibility, even here in the US, that a person can only be charged with manslaugther which could only carry a sentence of a 'few' years in jail, or none at all. Depending on the degree.

There's a video next to this one on the right that also happened in Russia. That involved a group of 4 or 5 pedestrians crossing the street and was violently bowled over by a fast driving car that didn't even looked as though he stepped on the brakes to slow down. Gruesome.

Thank God we live in America. I could not sleep at night if I did not rush to help the two on the sidewalk. I am a Vol Firefighter and this is sad that folks there do not even try to help. On my visits everyone was so nice to me that this video is shocking. I almost was hit by a speeding car,,,he did not even try to slow down,,he might have sped up for all I know. It is difficult but when you are there sight seeing you have to pay attention to everything around you. My wife was talking to her friend and I had 2 Russian guys eying our bags(in train station)..I told her to stay closer,,if one guy took one bag and I chased him the other guy would have taken the other 2!
