TransAero .. anyone flown them?
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:48:57 PM »
With my trip to Moscow fast approaching, I was scheduled to take AA from the states and connect to British Airways to get me to Domodedovo. However, with the whole British Airways strike pending, I decided to go ahead and switch my connecting flight from BA to BMI. Then I learned that although it is a BMI flight, its actually operated by Transaero through some codeshare or something.

Anyway, I notice they are a Russian airline.. anyone have any experience with them? I had not heard of them prior to this.

In order for you to fully evaluate the probability of having an unsuccessful flight (differentially defined) do a simple search on google for accident rates.

You will find that FSU carriers have accident rates of something like 10 times or more the rate of western carriers.  Some things I have seen quote accident rates as even higher than for African airlines.

Can't remember all the details, so go right to the source to see for yourself.
Other posters can probably provide the direct links.

I have flown Trans Aero. Twice on the same trip, to and fro Siberia within Russia. The plane wasn't the newest (huge understatement) and the legroom was pathetic. However, the flight was on time, the Stewardesses nice eye candy and the in-flight meal was quite good

If they still have retired MIG Pilots flying those dated Tupelos, you're going to have fun  ;D

But here are some reviews for TransAero, and Accident Ratings for different airlines including TransAero.
