Visas Necessary for Caribbean Cruse
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:27:54 PM »
Does anyone have experience with taking a lady with a Ukrainian passport and a US green card on a Caribbean cruise?  We will be taking a cruise in the future that stops at the following places:

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Considered American I believe
PHILIPSBURG, ST. MAARTEN  - Half Dutch and Half France
TORTOLA, B.V.I. - British
LABADEE, HAITI  - Unknown

Do I need to get visa from each of these countries / islands?  If so how do I get them?  As I have never been on a cruise myself I am not sure what to expect at the various stops.  For example when you get off the ship at a stop does everyone have to go through a formal Immigration inspection as you would if you arrived via air?  Or is the cruise ship company responsible to ensure that you have the correct visas when you get on the ship?

Any advice from anyone who has take their FSU lady on a cruise such as this would be helpful

Thanks

xman has started a thread about what countries your girl with a Ukrainian passport can travel. The green card will mean absolutely nothing. You will need a visa from each country. I hope you have plenty of time. Of course you'll need proof you are traveling on the ship and make sure there is not a multi-entry visa required. It's a pain in the ass. We learned the hard way in Ecuador and my inlaws learned about the multi entry thing on our Greece cruise. We got very lucky and they were able to miss the Turkish port and catch a ferry to Patmos and we picked them up there the next day. Do your homework and good luck.

The Green Card gives her entrance into the US, but not other counties.  She goes there as a Ukrainian citizen while she is in GC status.  So look at what each of those countries requires for Ukrainians to visit.  It they require a visa for Ukrainians, then she will need one.

Getting back into the US will be a breeze since she holds a GC.
