A better question would be: is it convenient for a lady to go to an Internet cafe to Skype with a foreigner?. :D Most Internet cafes that I know of have an hourly rate ranging from 50 cents US to just over a dollar, depending on the time of day..

Moscow Internet cafes are reasonably cheap but the few times that I've had to use one I haven't seen anyone using Skype or something similar.  A number of these Internet cafes in Moscow and surrounding area are for gamers and are not suitable for Internet chat. It would be a good idea to phone around and see if Skype is available and what is provided for an Internet chat.

With internet being promoted in Russia there is an abundance of cheap connections available. The chances of a young woman not having internet at home are decreasing very rapidly, especially if she is interested in international dating.
If she has no internet at home, the agency might provide skype connection.

IMO, her internet situation really shouldn't be a concern for you. If it is a concern you have to ask yourself why? Has she expressed this being a concern? Has she mentioned or eluded to the cost of her net cafe?

AL, these ladies are not some where in the Congo. There is much internet available and at a reasonable cost that she can likely afford. If she isn't Skyping, instant messaging or emailing you regularly enough there is another reason besides internet availability and chances are low to nil it has anything to do with cost.

Internet cafes can be quite expensive, in some cities - up to 1,5-3 dollars, which is quite a big sum of money, especially if you don't forget that girls, participating in the Internet dating, are asked to Skype not only by one man, but by dozens or even hundreds of them :) As people here have already said, it's also inconvenient and even awkward to skype, surrounded by little gamers, which crowd such places.

I'd say more are averse to the "embarrasment factor" skyping in a public place (internet cafe)
with a bunch of young gamers..than any other reason..

and if you just started communications , arnt likely to be upfront with the exact reason ..

quite a few have internet at home, quite a few do not.
(but may have it at work? where skype isn't convenient either)

Nat, your experiences certainly dwarf mine where Russia is concerned however, my experience is with the few selected sample size I have is that most women have access to internet. Either at home, work or friends that have it. I've been in more that one net cafe in Russia and seldom do I even see women.

3 dollars is a big sum of money? LOL!

Damn! What am I doing wrong? Actively using Skype for about five years now - mainly for work, though; where are these "dozens or even hundreds of men"?

P.S. aaah, it must be my age - I'm not falling into "girl" category anymore  :rolleyes2:

If you make $200 a month, yes, it is a big sum of money.

Internet costs about $1 US an hour in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Using skype is easy but sometimes the headsets don't work properly. There can be trouble with sound - but it is not expensive to use the internet in Russia especially in cafes which are out of the centres of town.

St P internet cafes charged 50R for half an hour and one place charged by the megabyte and that got real expensive.. I made one post on the forum from that place and it cost me over five bucks.. needless to say I didn't use that cafe again.

the only girls in the cafe worked there and they were on skype every time I came in.

in general the i-net cafes were very slow business.. it was not at all like it was in Donetsk a few years ago when it was packed.  On the other hand.. there are free wifi nodes all over St P and tons of people with laptops.

However it would be pretty safe to say that in cities internet cafe charges $3 the average income would be higher than $200 a month.  ;)
