May I ask what you think about EXTREME numbers of unsolicited letters from
beautiful young Russian/Ukrainian women on "marriage agency" Web sites?
Or is this not an appropriate question (or an appropriate venue for it?)

I can not speak for all women, I can only say for myself!
I am 30 years old and I have a child, I find it hard to find a man in my country.

Do not worry, there are enough western men who would go for you. Apply your self to the dating game, spread your chances, go on more dating sites.

I give you an example of myself. I am currently on three dating sites. I have some great contacts and have been invited by some ladies to come over. All are serious and differ from age. They range from 23 to 33, are single and some have children. All are serious, charming, cute and attractive. But there is a profound difference. The difference is life experience! Life experience forms personality and this can give you a head start.

Find out more about Western men too as you are already doing. This will place you also ahead of the younger non children women. I cannot promise you any results...as Facetrock says 'keep at it, don't give up, you will find someone'

I think you'll find that Western men, in general, are more open
to the idea of both courting and marrying a woman with children ...

For example, I am currently communicating with a 39-year-old lawyer

Welcome to the board, Katya.. Don't worry about Western men rejecting you because you have a child from a previous relationship.. most will not care if they are into you (your looks, personality, etc.).. Some men, like Facetrock here, specifically look for a woman with child(ren).. In Western culture, they refer to it as a 'ready-made family'..
