Visa for wife's aunt
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:06:07 PM »
My wife is in Russia now trying to sell her 90 year old aunt's flat and move her to Samara where my wife has a flat. We want to bring her here. My wife is waiting on USINS to send her permanent green card. Can I sponsor her aunt or does she have to sponsor her once she gets her green card. I am not sure if she can sponsor her. Anyone that has any info or advise please post it.

The U.S might want to know who will be responsible for her medical care. I am not being cute about this as my wife has no insurance and I pay the smaller stuff but she goes back to Russia for the major stuff.

I have this same concern with regard to my MIL coming over. Of course an accident or condition where she couldn't be moved or travel that long would wipe you out.

The solution we are working on is to get her here and to work, hence covered by insurance.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

You cannot sponsor your Wife's relative.  Even when your wife gets her green card, she cannot get a immigrant visa for her Aunt. Sorry, but your wife would need to becaome an American citizen first, then the wait would be several years.  Since the Aunt is already 90, it does not make any sense.

1. No you can't sponsor
2. No your wife can't sponsor at this time.

3. Do you think this is what wife's aunt wants? Being 90 years old? to move to a strange country?

4. If the answer to #3 is yes and you agree, this is what I would do.

Have Granny apply for a tourist visa. An interview at the embassy is not required for applicants 14 years of age and under and applicants 80 years of age and older. Since a interview is not required there is a good possibility she will receive it. In your mind you know she won't return. Do the planning for the end of life events and go about living. GC, AOS and overstaying a visa is not important at her stage in life. P.S. Medical treatment cannot be denied because of being "out of status".

But my understanding is that "Anything Goes" does not really mean "anything" if that "anything" violates the TOS.
