Advice for kyrgystan
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:54:43 PM »
1st post! anyways I am 26 and never married, my friend/ occasional employer in his 70's is married to a very nice woman from Kyrgystan, and she wants me to go with her to visit her family, in the next month or so in Bishkek. The reason she want to go so early is because its cold so "revolution season has not opened yet" I wonder what advice some of you might have. Also am I likely to get shot on said trip

I have never traveled much even in the states or flew on a plane so this will be an adventure for me, her family is dirt poor so we will be sleeping on the floor, it will be just like college!

Also I was wondering if it would be possible to make any of my ticket back if I buy a gold ring there and bring it back to sell ? :)

Welcome to the forum, lemonhead.

I don't know much about the Kyrgyz Republic, but I did find a link to the U.S. embassy's website for you.  Travelling with a local, I'm sure you'll be fine.  Just use common sense, and don't carry a lot of cash or take anything you would be upset at losing.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

 :welcome:

Bring a nice suit with you. Is she planning on fixing you up with someone?

I wonder what advice some of you might have. Also am I likely to get shot on said trip

When you're going down the street just make sure to keep your head down and run in a zig-zag.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I wouldn't think so, most who do tend not to complain much.

Oh no it won't, I promise you it won't.

I'd skip on cost recovery measures for the first trip.

If this is legitimate and above board, I'd suggest you grab any chance to travel with both hands.

Pure Asia. It will be a culture shock if you've never been to the FSU before or only to the larger cities. Worth the trip however. Beautiful ladies from pure Asian features to a blend of Asian and Slavic (minority).

As there is a very large Muslim population don't treat this as the same type of trip a single guy could make to Ukraine when it comes to nightclubs and alcohol. It's there but you'll want to fly under the radar given all the unrest of the past year.

Yes she said there was an church there that she thought i could get the email of a nice girl other than that not much.

haha Ill remember that, I think there were some people killed last year though, I believe here son tried to take his family to the Russian airbase but you have to have to be able  to prove your Russian citizenship and he couldn't without his mother. She told me he dose not want to buy any furniture because he may have to move to another county at any time, right now he works at the us airbase so he doesn't want to lose his job.

Oh no it won't, I promise you it won't.

haha  I dont think so. her son is the same age as I am. That being said I would not have agreed to look at fsu had I not been so impressed at how good of a person she is,
I've never met anyone so selfless. I will be glad when she get to see her family again.
