Hello all

I am here out of curiosity about these scams...this all started with me looking for local women on M@tch.com, and by local I mean within a few hours of my locale, AZ. I viewed a profile that was listed to be in CA...to be honest I might have contacted her first but either way I was contacted the next day after viewing her profile and given a gmail address and short letter. We started correspondence and then informed that she's in Russia. The M@tch profile was gone a few days later ..I keep writing out of amusement...I have been contacted by some scammers before and usually just ingnore/delete them but on occasion have indulged in correspondence for a goof until it grows tiresome or they do something stupid such as write me calling me another name. I have not been asked for money but according to what I'd read on here that's just a matter of time.

So I'm looking around on this site for info again, just out of curiosity, on these scams just because I'm wondering what the possibility of something like this not being a scam.

TINEYE search for pictures sent to me brought me ...to my own email account

GOOGLE search brought only local versions of the M@tch search engine for the area listed for her profile which again was CA and sections from the letters come back with nothing

DELPHIFAQS...found nothing...including the picture search there

some things on the check on the check list bring up possible red flags and some of the things described in the form letters match the composition of the letters I received and are thus suspect but with around 10 emails traded prehaps too early to tell and some things do not match the scam description

I have not asked for an address or a phone number..but that's because I am not looking to this as anything more than correspondence.....so the point of this is that while I am not actively looking for a Russian woman overseas, I am however open to something developing over a extended time ....if it is legit.

of further note...I dated a Russian woman here in AZ (1.5) and her opinion was that there was more legit women looking than scammers

so the first question that I would ask is at what point and what indicators would your collective experience say to be the hallmark of legit.

I am not concerned with being scammed...suspect behavior is easier to spot in this situation than legit and I and not giving money to anyone....I am viewing this as purely entertainment right now

Welcome ssn,

Get the ladies phone number and call often. A scammer can't be enthusiastic about you calling for long unless you're putting out money.

Most foreign women who contact you on a local dating site will most likely be scammers. They like targeting you more than us because guys like you don't know much about the chances of an FSU women getting a visa are slim. They will tell you they will fly to your doorstep but somewhere along the line they will need your money at the last minute before they are to get on the flight. If you send money, you will be waiting at the airport with flowers for a woman that will never show.

Since you're here, the scammer photos must be so hot that it got you interested deeper into RW. There are better ways to meet RW. Do some reading here and you'll figure it all out.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

the hallmark of legit.
I doubt there's a "hallmark" as such but one clue might be, if you're wrapped around each other under dim lights in some park just near central Sumburg, she has her tongue stuffed down your throat, her hand in your pocket and it's wrapped around other than your wallet, there's a fair chance she's real.

in response.... she is pretty but not unrealistically so attractive that its blatant that it's a set up...I have dated hotter women, but the woman in the pics is lovely to my eye.

I'll keep that in mind if somewhere down the road I haven't been asked for money, hes letters continue and progress and I actually take a trip.

Scammers send a series of pre-defined letters which address the most common questions asked, while filled with semi-romantic drivel that could be interpreted as a life story.

As for pictures, there are a number of social network sites in Russia where you can get a set of pictures of a woman in various dresses and poses. For the rest there is Photoshop.

How to find out what is legit ?

1. Ask very specific questions, that are not easy to answer by a generic letter
2. suggest a meeting in her locality. If she comes up with a million excuses and suggest to meet at your place, money letter will soon follow.
3. Check IP information. If the IP more or less matched her claimed location, good. If it resovles to the University Campus of Yoshkar-Ola, its trouble.

Note that as Match does not accept Russian profiles due to mild xenophobia, even a legitimate woman would have to put being from the US. Removal of profile would be once she decided not to use her proxy server. Do not think RW have no knowledges on how to use one, due to limitations they are usually much better in this knowledge than we are.

Read around, and perhaps somewhere along the line you might find a real interest in RW.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

ssn-

There's a huge recent upsurge of scam mails eminating out of Russia. More than likely, there will be a parallel increase in dating sites bait&switch moves.

You may already know, but in the event you do not...allow me to suggest when surfing dating sites like Match, Yahoo, etc...before actually doing so, on your IE browser, there's a little 'tab' on the right hand side that says 'Safety'. Click and scroll down and check 'In Private Filtering'. This should 'help' shield you from 3rd parties' detecting what you're currently surfing or had recently surfed.

As for scammers and how to spot them...these nutjobs get just as sophisticated in their systems as well, if not better, than most unsuspecting wide-eyed John Does.

It isn't a guarantee but there really are only 2 chances an enchanting sexy maiden in a distant land is all of the sudden enamored with a man she doesn't know...Slim and none.

Unfortunately, the men who fall for this are those who are a cut above the average in having full knowledge of 'what's up' - at least according to themselves  :rolleyes2:

Your instincts will never lie to you...good luck.
