How do I join VKontakte?
« on: May 25, 2011, 07:50:40 AM »
Hello everyone, I am trying to join VKontakte, but have run into a couple road blocks. To join you must be invited by a friend who is already a member, and a text with your login and password will be sent to your phone.

#1) I am joining to search for new friends, so how do I join if I do not yet have a friend to invite me? (kind of a catch 22 here)

#2) Will I have trouble receiving a text from eastern Europe to my Verizon phone in the USA?

Any helpful thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Hello, SB, you may have someone from this forum to send you and invite and  you won't have any problems receiving sms with the code. I send sms from MTS to Verizon and they are always delivered.
Good luck  :)

Please do let us know how it works.  I have been invited by friend, but never had my profile accepted because of the text concern.

Yup. Try this site as they seem to have more than a few who are willing to extend an invitation....

No.

Yes, I have seen this GQ, kind of funny guys going around asking for invites and others telling to PM me with some PERSONAL INFO. Reminds me of going to Dodger Stadium, as I drive into the stadium guys have signs asking for tickets and a little further on other guys have signs selling tickets........go figure :cluebat:

From what I gather it is mostly young girls social site, though, you could possibly find a girl you want info on.

My understanding is this is done because scalping tickets can be frowned upon (illegal even) asking to buy tickets isn't--so if you want to buy tickets, the chances are the guy with the sign asking to buy tickets will actually sell them to you.

Yes, I have seen this GQ, kind of funny guys going around asking for invites and others telling to PM me with some PERSONAL INFO.

They are asking for what is needed to send an invite  :)

Here's the copy of the invite page:

"You can invite 3 friends or relatives to become a VK member.

Your login and password to VK will be sent to the phone number that you enter. Your friends and loved ones can start using the site right away without performing additional actions.
Invite a Friend
First Name:
Surname:
Mobile phone:
An SMS with the password to log in to VK will be sent to the phone.
 Add Main Information"

If you haven't found anyone to help you, sillyboy, PM me and I'll invite you.

You sure you're talking VKontakte and not Odnoklassniki?  I joined Vkontakte some time ago and didn't need any invitation to do so.  Perhaps they've changed something since I've joined.  If so, send me a PM with your e-mail or whatever is required and I'll see if I can figure out how to invite someone.

Yey hey LAman!

Speaking of silly boys and the Boys in Blue, you still skip to Chavez Ravine? Are you nutz? There may be only you and 10,000 field side seat diehards chomping on those Farmer John's these days, man. Especialy now Frankie will likely get stopped by Selig and his gang cutting silly deals just to meet payroll.

Too bad 'bout Stow. I thought the word on the streets were these #!@#! gangbangers normally make a sacrificial act on opening day. I say put more boots on the ground if MLB-LA want a few more excitement in that ravine.

You have to first choose "English" near the bottom of the page so that you can read. It will help to have a mail.ru account also.

Sorry...I thought you spoke English!  :D   I seriously have no idea what you are saying - would you be so kind as to translate?

LOL AK...my bad. Local lingo but you always flew on my cool radar so allow me to indulge.

"Speaking of silly boys and the Boys in Blue"
Boys in Blue is the tag name for LA's Baseball Team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their team color is blue, Dodger blue. I tagged the silly boys bit because of the state the entire organization is in right now, which is in limbo.

"you still skip to Chavez Ravine? Are you nutz?"
Local lingo 'skip' means going to an event for the evening, for a while, for the day. Conversely, 'hop' is when someone goes to multiple events in the same day. 'Show' is when they go to an event just 'to be seen'

Chavez Ravine is the area where Dodger Stadium is located. The area is predominantly Latino, Downtown and the eastern section of LA. Really rough/tough part of LA.

The area is named after Julian Chavez. A lot of rich history behind Chavez Ravine post WWII. Even the Feds was involved in the re-structuring of this area for a while until so much political redtape stalled and ultimately halted any housing progams during that time. It became very political.

I asked him if he was crazy for even 'going to a game' because of recent event that took place (generally takes place) at Dodger Stadium.

"There may be only you and 10,000 field side seat diehards chomping on those Farmer John's these days, man."
The attendance had gone down since opening day especially the bleacher sections (cheap tickets) because of the ever-increasing crime going on.

Farmer John is the 'hotdog' brand they sell at Dodger Stadium called 'Dodger Dog'. Ball games isn't quite the same without hotdogs, popcorn, and beer.

"Especialy now Frankie will likely get stopped by Selig and his gang cutting silly deals just to meet payroll."
Frankie is Frank McCourt, the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is in the midst of a bitter divorce with his wife, Jaime, who is fighting for half the ownership of the team. The team's financial situation is in complete disarray and Frank had been trying to cut TV deals supposedly for the future of the team. But many believes he's draining the team of money. He recently borrowed 30 million dollars just to make payroll, wages for the players, coaches, stadium workers, etc...he is again due to make payroll and there doesn't seem to be 'any money', LOL.

Bud Selig is the commisioner of Major League Baseball. Each team in baseball signed an agreement that the MLB reseves the right to take over any team if there's enough evidence a team is heading towards financial straits.

"Too bad 'bout Stow."
That would be Brian Stow. A northern Californian from Sta Cruz. He's a father of two, a paramedic, and a San Francisco Giant's fan. He attended the opening game at Dodger Stadium against their cross-state rivals, the San Francisco Giants, wearing a SF Giant's jersey. After the game, he got beat-up by a couple of gangbangers. One struck him behind the head and fell down on the ground - knocked out. Then the two guys took turns kicking him in the face and the head and blew his skull. He went into a coma.

You can read it here.. http://abcnews.go.com/US/bryan-stow-beating-man-charged-assault/story?id=13659729

"I thought the word on the streets were these #!@#! gangbangers normally make a sacrificial act on opening day."
It is widely believed on the streets that opening day is brutal. If the home team loses, gangbangers collect a toll and beats up just about anyone. It's their way of getting even for the home team losing. Not cool, man...Baseball is supposed to be a traditional American 'family' outing. Baseball is America's pasttime. Unfortunately, professional sports have a huge Latino fan base. Kings, Lakers, Galaxies, Dodgers. Everytime the Lakers win the NBA Championship, there's always riots that ensue, initiated mostly by our Latino Angelenos.

" I say put more boots on the ground if MLB-LA want a few more excitement in that ravine.."
MLB-LA, Major League Basebal, Los Angeles.

Security is seriously lacking at Dodger Stadium. Many blames this to Frank McCourt. He doesn't want to spend the money. Yet cashes out 100 million every season for as their wages and 'expenses'. No cameras, no undercover, hardly seen security team. So when Brian Stow got jumped, the authorities had to fully rely on eyewitnesses description of the attacker because no one was there to provide safety and security.

Boots, meaning Los Angeles Police department. Our city is flat broke, just like the State of California. We spend a ton of our money to support social entitlements for our society's sponges and millions of illegal aliens. So the city don't have enough left to provide ample police force amongst other things.

LA's the Place. Not.

Totally :offtopic:  of course, but     Thanks - I had SOME idea of what you meant, but the names don't mean anything in this part of the world.

As for the fighting - thank goodness cricket  :blowkiss:  and rugby  :mooning:  are so genteel in comparison! Any update on Brian Stow?

Hello everyone, I am trying to join VKontakte, but have run into a couple road blocks. To join you must be invited by a friend who is already a member, and a text with your login and password will be sent to your phone.

Just caught this thread and have some options for those that want to join. Rules can be broken and you don't need a friend to join. Write to support@vkontakte.ru  and tell them you're from whatever country and would like to join but don't have any friends to invite you.

For those that don't know Vkontakte is like Facebook. Get google toolbar which should allow you to translate the page and find the option for languages to read in English. It's a good place to communicate with people.

If you run into people who can't write English, use this site to translate their words and yours.

I will set it up for you, but I have to have use an e-mail address of yours. You can make the password to that e-mail account temporary, but that's the only way I can do it without releasing my password to you. I have a mail.ru account for my VK, but you can use anything. When someone invites you, it gives you their password. Send me a PM
