Transaero?
« on: March 25, 2011, 01:15:48 PM »
I have noticed that Transaero has jumped into the New York/Moscow/Almaty market and with an extremely competitive pricepoint. Has anyone used this carrier recently? Did you arrive at your destination alive?

Cossack lady prefers it over Aeroflot or New York.  She has flown RT Moscow-New York once and Moscow-Miami twice.  The latter has many empty seats, enabling a good sleep.  The connection times schedule dovetail better than with Aeroflot and Delta, saving her 3-4 hours of airport-to-airport time.

Or you purchasing a ticket for yourself or someone else?  If someone else, there are a couple of paperwork hassles.

It's for Nessi and son so they can visit relatives and friends this summer. I had visions of it being as bad or worse than Aeroflot and I'm glad to hear that that isn't the case. Purchasing a ticket is easy enough now that they are under the Expedia umbrella.

Why do you need Expedia, apart from possibly finding the cheapest fare?  Transaero have a pefectly good website of their own.  I had no problem purchasing a ticket on it five years ago, and I can't see that anything has changed.

When buying on Expedia, one sees the pricing and schedules of the major competitors for a given flight. In the past, I haven't seen any price advantage to buying directly on an airline site but I will check it nontheless.

In any event, what was your opinion of Transaero?

Some airlines won't post all of their flights on search engines. Those they do post are usually the same price. The makes it possible to get a cheaper price on some flights directly from the airline website.

I've flown Transaero twice in-country Russia. The planes were a bit older, legroom (which is an issue for me) was acceptable, the service acceptable and the flights were uneventful. Looking at it that way I'd say it was pretty good.

I was quite pleased with them - modern, clean plane with plenty of legroom and good cabin service.  I would happily fly them again if the price was competitive, but the rapid rise of Avianova and the ongoing quality of S7 has made that rather unlikely.

Yes. But then I love Aeroflot too so judge accordingly.

It makes me feel better to sit in the rear--so far no Aeroflot or Transaero pilot has shoved the gears in reverse and backed the plane into a mountain.  :D

That being said however, Mrs M likes to fly up front cause if there is a problem she wants to be close to the dudes who know what they're doing as she is under the impression that usually those are the pilots.

Usually.

She also thinks that while the rest of us are groping for the seat cushion water floatation devices while waiting for impact, the pilots actually know where the parachutes are hidden.

Seriously, I wish a safe and comfortable flight for your family.
