Installing the Russian pakage on Windows 7
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:37:47 AM »
Is this covered somewhere here? I'm trying to do this with my wife's laptop and I can't find anything for Windows 7 on Microsoft support. Ukrainian, yes. No Russian.

You can order the Russian version of Windows from Microsoft. Then all you have to do is install it.
What do you need to do? If all you need is to type in Cyrillic alphabet simply go to your global settings and choose  that character set. Then you'll have a little icon in the lower right of your puter and when you select it your computer will type in Russian characters. But you'll need to get a keyboard with those characters, Amazon would be a good place to find one.

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else :)

Mrs. just redid her computer with  copy of Win 7----during the 3+ hour run of updates, there were 34 different language packs offered; Russian among them. Down load and install the language pack, and then do like JR suggested.
BTW---Ebay has several people selling Cyrillic stickers for your keyboard
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

My apologies, I thought I replied to THIS list of my solution to the problem. I was pointed to
Control Panel>clock,language and region>change keyboards or other input methods>keyboards and languages>change keyboards>add.

Thx to both of you for replying.

BTW, I didn't have to download the language in Win7.

EDIT to add: In addition, I used the wrong terminology; what I wanted to do was switch back and forth from English to Russian because I bought her a Cyrillic keyboard.
