Ukraine Trip
« on: August 05, 2011, 08:23:58 PM »
Hello all,
I will be in Kharkov from August 18 - 21 and then Kiev from August 22 - 26.

I am trying to make some last-minute arrangements (previous plan didn't look right) for:
  • a guide/translator in Kharkov & Kiev that will help me with transportation to/from airport & apartment as well as meet me at an airport;
  • an apartment for 4 days in Kharkov and an apartment for four days in Kiev. Does anyone know of some respectable & certifiable contacts that will help me RSVP an apartment for a reasonable rate on a short notice?
Your input and suggestions will be much appreciated.
Domo arigato,
sensei

It's hard to believe that it's been over three years since I last visited Ukraine, but when I did I used a company called "Discover Ukraine".  I know some of the guides I had are no longer with the company, but if Irina is still running it, then I'm sure you'll be taken care of.  BTW, they are based out of Kharkov and had a few people who where based in Kyiv.

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

She is competent; however, her success has lead to a deterioration of her attitude toward clients, a raising of prices, etc.  She will offer to 'rent' you a device to pick up wifi signal at double the price that you could 'purchase' the device.

Unfortunately, this is a common theme with these FSU helpers.
We spread the word about someone who is good, they get much business, and then the service falls off while prices increase.

Perhaps inevitable.

Hi.  I apologize if I did not communicate the scope of my services sufficiently well to ManLooking.  I endeavor to provide the best, and most convenient, services to my clients.  This includes providing them with convenient WiFi.  When I provide clients with a WiFi device, it is for Internet usage only.  I preload and prepay the anticipated Internet usage cost, and pass that cost, at what it cost me, to the client.  I make no profit on this, I do not even charge for the time it takes me to arrange the prepaid usage, or to get the WiFi to the client.

I always aim to help my clients as much as possible.  I am sorry if ManLooking's perception was that he was taken advantage of, and had he communicated this to me directly, I would have had the opportunity to explain the difference in the fees.

I enjoy meeting people and helping clients, and always look for constructive ways to improve my services.

ManLooking, did you specifically ask Mila about the price differential?  If she made no profit on this, it is unfair of you to suggest she was "robbing" her clients.

Perhaps you are just a difficult customer?
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten
