Having a friendship with a Russian
« on: January 04, 2012, 03:10:17 PM »
I'm friends with this young Russian woman in her mid 20's who moved to the US a few years back. I met her at a community college where she approached me first into conversation about a year ago. I have some female friends and we say bye to each other we give each other a hug with a pat on the back. Not long ago I was hanging out with the Russian woman and as we said bye to each other I gave her like how I would with my other friends. When she gave me a hug she seem to give me a firm grip and rub her face on my cheek and gave me a kiss. Is this part of the Russian culture to do this to their male friends? I'm trying to learn the Russian culture more as this is my first Russian friend. Being a Asian person mixed with some Central American and born in the US, I'm pretty familiar with the culture here but never hurts to learn another.

The answer to that is yes, the very same as most cultures. Somehow I suspect that isn't the real question you wanted to ask.

Do you "think" the hug and kiss had some overt affectionate overtones? If so, and you'd like to explore it further, ask her out.

Tiger Woods! Welcome! ..or is it Jackie Chan?  :P  No matter....you must be as sexy as me with that mix...

Yeah, I'm with FP...most wimmen do that with men they're comfortable with. Hell, some are far too comfortable they actually do much more than that. Matter of fact, these females didn't have to be human to have the sentiment like this camel did...

Bet you that guy didn't need to learn camel culture either...

She has lived here for a few years. I think she knew EXACTLY what she was doing. Go for it..if you like her.

If you don't have much experience with women this will be good practice for you.

The whole "female friend hug goodbye" is a bit chump-like in my opinion...  but that's just me.  If you like the girl you should make it known... not sit there wondering and looking for an answer to your desires on an internet site.

Go for it... what's the worst that could happen???  She could say "No" and then you're back alone with your intimate thoughts - but at least with a dose of reality.   :D

Don't be scared - she's "just a girl".

Good luck!

Let me guess. The Community College is in California. Soon you'll find out that some guy comes to pick her up and you cannot figure if it is her brother or her boyfriend. You get infatuated with her and then out of the blue you feel nothing for her. Some other stuff that I forgot.

Deja vu all over again.

Thanks for the replies and the camel video was pretty funny, a good example to set out. I only like this Russian woman as a friend and nothing more. I currently have a crush on this Chinese woman I met in the same school and same class where I met the Russian woman.

My advice stands for the Chinese woman as well.    ;D
