Trip to Kiev, Ukraine10-14-2011 through 11-05-2011


PART I


Another trip to Kiev, a beautiful city in the summer, not as pretty in the fall, but we got lucky and the weather was relatively nice. Although I always have to adjust to the temperature change going from the upper 80s in Florida to around 40 – 45 in Kiev. At least the weather was dry and it only rained a couple of times during the 3 weeks that we were there.


Well, we had everything set – I had 2 apartments booked (a 2 room apartment for us and a 1 room apartment for the ladies, in the same building 3 floors down from us) with the same landlady I dealt with a couple of times before, dates arranged and looking forward to arriving to Kiev on October 15Th.


RWD member, “Dugger” , a young looking, in good shape 57 y.o. very likable Canadian man contacted me sometime in June of 2011 and after talking with several of my former clients decided to retain me to assist him in finding his potential girlfriend, fiancee and hopefully wife in due time. He had some FSU experience – went to Ukraine on an AFA tour, so he had some knowledge of what Ukraine is like.


Dugger and I started working sometime in the end of July. The first couple of months we were very busy contacting many women from all over FSU, not excluding any FSU country/area. I believe that one should look for the right woman and that special connection, rather than “the right place”.
Dugger chatted with probably around 30 or 40 women that he found attractive and who showed interest in getting to know him, and after about 8 weeks of that it became obvious that he was developing a nice, special connection/friendship with 7 of them.


One of the women, who was from Russia was too young for him IMHO and I advised him not to get too emotionally invested in that relationship because IMO there was a very low probability that anything serious would develop between them. Dugger did like the girl, however I felt that it was more of a curiosity thing on her part and in addition the age gap was too wide. But then again, you just never know in life so we figured that if it was logistically feasible we’d make a stop in her city so they could at least meet and spend a couple of days together getting to know each other in person.
All other ladies were IMO better suited for Dugger in terms of age and were in their late 30s to early 40s, all very attractive. So now Dugger had to decide who he was going to see, where and for how long.


“Z” (the young one, way too young for him IMO) was from Samara, Russia.
“V” – a 40 yo blond widow from a small city not too far from Minsk, Belarus.
“T” – a vivacious, sexy 41 yo musician also from Belarus
“A” – a beautiful, artistic 39 year old from Moldova
“N” – A pretty 39 yo woman from Kerch, Ukraine with a 1.5 year old baby boy who spoke good English, so Dugger and her chatted for a couple of months without me having to translate for them. The downside was that was that I had no idea what she was about.
“M” – A very pretty 40 year old blond from Pyatigorsk, Russia – not far from the Black Sea and Ukraine
“S” – a pretty 37 year old from Donetsk, Ukraine


Logistically it would make a lot more sense for us to set up in Kiev and invite the women to come to Kiev for a few days to meet and get to know each other face to face. It would take several additional days for us to travel to each location, plus we would have to get visas for Belarus and Russia. So we decided that Dugger would suggest to them a short vacation in Kiev where he would take care of their travel expenses and would have a separate apartment for them to stay at.


The young “Z” declined meeting in Kiev because of her job, but I actually felt relieved because I was worried that meeting and spending a few days with her would be a complete waste of time (as far as finding a woman for marriage is concerned).
“S” also couldn’t come, although she wanted to see Dugger in Donetsk. But we felt that she hasn’t shown enough interest to justify that special effort of travelling to Donetsk just to see her particularly that Dugger felt a much stronger connection with the other women.


A couple of weeks before the trip “M” had a serious problem with her 19 yo son and decided not to come either.
So Dugger now had 4 women to see and these 4 were the strongest connection and the best possibility women for him anyway.
We also had a couple of “back up plan” women to date in Kiev in case something changed and he had any free days.
Alright, scheduling every one to make sure there were no overlaps wasn’t an easy task but it all worked out perfect with only 2 days without having a date locked in. But now we are all set and ready to rock n’ roll!
Our flights are booked so that we meet in Kiev at Borispol airport and we arrive within 2 hours from each other.


Dugger gets there at 14:20 and I arrive at 16:20.
So my wife and daughters see me off at SRQ airport. I first have to fly to Atlanta, then Amsterdam and then Kiev. Not an easy trip, but not as bad as going somewhere in Siberia.
So I’m at Borispol airport in Kiev, went through passport control – quick and easy, they now did away with the immigration form, Dugger is there waiting for me. Always nice to finally see a person in real life after talking on Skype every day for 3 months. I get us a cab and negotiate the price down to 160 Grivna ($20)which includes him stopping and waiting for us while I get a SIM card for my unlocked phone. Got the card, called the landlady – already waiting for us at the apartment. be there in 20 minutes. Got there, signed the lease took a shower and hit the pillow. Thank God!!!
Tomorrow morning “V” is arriving from Belarus so we have to get up early to meet her at the train terminal.

Trip to Kiev, part II

It was nice to get a good night sleep after the 22 hour trip from Florida to Kiev. We got up early in the morning and had some breakfast (we pickedup a few things from the 24 hour supermarket the night before. The supermarket is conveniently located in a big shopping mall one minute walk from our apartment building) and I called a taxi. By the way, it can be 2, 3 or even 4 times less expensive when you call a taxi service on the phone rather than getting one on the street. An amazing difference! The ride to the train station only cost $5 plus we stopped on the way there to pick up a bouquet of roses.
"V" arrived right on time and we were there waiting. She was very pleased with the roses, a nice hug and I called the cab driver (who I asked to wait for us if he was going to be in the neighborhood anyway). We went back to the apartments, dropped off her bag and went to breakfast to a very nice place that has a very nice interior, delicious food and prices are extremely reasonable ($6 or $7 per person will get you totally full). Great thing is that this place is in the same shopping mall 1 minute walk from our building.
"V" didn't speak any English so I was busy translating for them. I had talked with "V" on skype a few times and developed a friendly repoire which helped a lot because it felt more like 3 friends meeting for breakfast having a fun conversation. When a couple meets for the first time there are usually a few awkward moments, many people are a bit nervous, so I know of a few good ways to take the edge off - one is to pull out my iPhone and show a woman photos and videos of my daughters, wife and dogs, it helps them relax. So "V" sees me as a family man who is committed to his wife and kids, so I'm OK in her book. And since I'm Dugger's buddy, he is instantly OK by association, and that makes her even more relaxed about him and this whole unusual situation of meeting a foreign guy from across the world away for the first time. Since I help my guys find Russian and Ukrainian women who are not a part of the mail order bride industry they are not accustomed to dating foreign men which makes it an unusual situation for them.
For 2 days Dugger and "V" spent time sightseeing and talking, getting to know each other face to face. I think that there was a mutual "like" there but not much of that special chemistry that is needed to take things to the next level...  She was reserved and didn't show much emotion. Just friendly and nice, nothing romantic really... So we took "V" back to the train station since she had to get back to work. 2 days was enough time to figure out that this relationship probably wasn't worth pursuing even though "V" was a very attractive, intelligent and very well educated woman.
Next morning we had "T" arriving, also from Belarus. By the end of our time in Kiev we took so many trips to the Train Terminal that the taxi service I was using was already asking me if we were going to Central Railroad Terminal the second I called! LOL. Another funny thing was that "V" left those beautiful roses at her apartment. They were still looking totally fresh and gorgeous. When Dugger and I noticed that, we kinda looked at each other: "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" and started laughing. Why let these beautiful flowers go to waste? ...Yeah, I know, it's cheesy... but who'd ever find out, right?
Well. let's get some sleep so we can get up early and go to the railroad terminal to meet date#2 - "T", the sexy musician lady also from Belarus. We can also get 15 minutes extra sleep since there is no need to pick up new flowers!

A 2nd hand trip report [a new twist].  Just a couple of Q's:
a) As an independent contractor, do you carry liability insurance?
b) Is Ms. Right aware of Misses A,B,C,...?
    If not, will anything hit the fan if she happens to read episodes II,III,IV,...?

Next morning is a bit of a Déjà vu. “T” arrives from Belarus at the train terminal and Dugger and I are meeting her with (the same) bouquet of roses… Roses look beautiful, Dugger looks beautiful and “T” looks spectacular as she gets off the train  . She is all smiles, very upbeat and radiates nice, positive energy. A very pretty, sexy 41 year old who looks about 35.
Took the taxi back to our building, saw her to her apartment, let her wash up and went for breakfast to the same awesome restaurant as before. Great conversation, lots of laughs, followed by sightseeing ofKiev (once again). Very different vibe from “V” though – Dugger and “T” hold hands, there is flirting, and definitely some good chemistry going on.

“T” speaks pretty good English since she spent several years working in Bahraine so they are able to communicate pretty good. Any time I see the confused look in her eyes I jump in and translate for her so she understands everything that Dugger is saying. And when she needs help to say something I help out as well. Dugger and “T” are having a very nice, relaxing time together. At night we went to the night club. Music was Latin and Latin house, almost the same as what I used to spin at the Spanish night club/restaurant I DJ-ed at here in Tampa Bay a couple of years ago. Dugger and “T” are loving the music and the atmosphere in the club, and after we all have a bite to eat they are dancing the night away.Everything is going great.

Dugger is definitely feeling a much better connection with “T” than what he felt with “V”. I though that they would connect well because we already knew that she was a professional pianist and vocalist. Dugger is a professional artist and his mom is a professional opera singer. So both are creative people.
Since “T” spoke pretty good English we decided that Dugger and her should spend part of the second day without me and then I would join them later in the afternoon. They went to a museum, did some more sight seeing and generally had a wonderful time together.

2 days was a little too short, but she couldn’t get away for any longer because of her work so we saw her off. It was a little disappointing that the visit was so short, but there is always the next time. “T” invited Dugger to visit her in Belarus and spend more time together getting to know each other better.
Great visit overall! “T” has a lot of potential. “T” and I had a few conversations in Russian where I got to know her
better and got the answers to all questions Dugger and I had. So no red flags, green light all the way for now. “T” is a delightful lady!

Now we have a 1 day break before “A” arrives. Dugger decided that we should just catch up on some sleep and rest, since we are still jet lagged and feeling tired. It was good to take a break IMO, because it also gave Dugger a chance to regroup and refocus on his next date – “A”.
