What Can you tell me about Armenia ?
« on: January 30, 2012, 02:24:34 PM »
I met this girl from Armenia and I wanted to ask everyone here how safe it would be for a white boy like me to go over there ?  And if i did how easy of a side trip from UKR, would it be.

I am not attracted to most Armenian girls but this one is a little above average.  She hasn't asked many questions about me and she speaks decent english.   I felt so bad when she told me that we could only SKYPE during daylight hours because she didn't have a light in her room because the electricity to her room was out and not working, like the line was cut.    But she can and did SKYPE during the day.

what do you think ?  Don

Advise her she can plug in a table lamp to the same receptacle that she plugs her computer in to, with use of dual outlet if necessary.  But maybe she can't afford such a lamp.  There are also small lights that work off of the USB ports on computers.

But if we are looking for a red flag . . . then night time is when her husband/boyfriend is home from work.   :o
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Cell, where can we start?

Armenia is an interesting place and in some respects has much in common with countries like neighboring Georgia. Armenia is tied to Russia historically from being ruled from Russia. It has much in common also with other nations like Georgia, being that Armenia is also part of the Caucasus mountain region of Eurasia. Both Georgia and Armenia are Christian.

It was the first nation to adopt Christianity as the state religion (Orthodox, named the Armenian Apostolic Church) in the year 301. This also ties Armenia to Russia and other neighbors. Neighboring Georgia adopted Christianity just a few years later.

It was ruled by the Ottoman Empire (Muslim) for a time up until World War I and many (estimated at a million) Armenian Christians were murdered during that time by the Turks. After World War I the Soviet Union eventually claimed Armenia, an action that helped stop the killing of Christians.

Bordered by Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia today, Armenia cultivates the relationship with Russia (and to an extent Georgia) as protection from her 3 primarily Islamic neighbors. Armenia and Azerbaijan are technically still at war over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh province. Armenia's border to Turkey is also closed due to that war and because of the Turkey's role in the genocide of a million Armenians but the UN began the process of negotiating the reopening of relations in 2009.

Armenia only has a population of 3+ million so one can see why the genocide of Armenians by Turkey took such a severe toll. Yerevan is the capital and today Armenia is working toward what it hopes will be eventual acceptance into the European Union.

Thankfully the Kardashians have moved out and are more of an embarrassment than a point of pride. Like many other true Caucasians, Armenians are a blend of olive/slightly dark skin tones. Very beautiful!

As for girls "wanting to get out" don't fall for such a line. Armenia is a legitimate democracy and the economy is slow but Armenians are very loyal to their culture. There are significant Armenian communities across the USA and Canada in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Phoenix, Boston, and San Francisco. There are about 400,000 Armenians in Canada and the US and they are called "post genocide Armenians" as they were forced to flee.

Armenian is the native language but Russian is the de facto second language and spoken widely as a trade language. The Armenian language was influenced by Greek (as was Russian) with a unique alphabet (Հայկական Այբուբեն means "Armenian Alphabet") of 38 letters.

It's full of Armenians ;)
I know of a woman in Morocco who had to bring a light bulb from another room to use her computer in the evenings. Things happen, we don't always know a persons circumstances so be careful jumping to conclusions.

Talk about get hit over the head with a bat.
 :cluebat:

I had been asking my friend questions about her son, mostly to see if the father would let him come to the USA.  I also wanted to see if he spoke english.    She told me he did not speak any english, so i asked a few more questions and told her that it could be difficult for her and him in the USA because some people might assume they were muslim etc...  9/11 and all.

Anyway she tells me that her son does not speak at all,  like he has something wrong with him.    She said he has a CNS issue from birth and also A Vestibular system issue where he can't balance well.

So this presents a huge issue for me, i feel bad for the kid and part of me think she should bring him to the USA for treatment, the other part of me knows that this child will need full time care and it would be a huge commitment from me.

I feel like an ass thinking about cutting ties with her for this.

She said that her parents would keep the kid if she wanted to come to the USA.   I told her that the child should stay with her long term.   I know that she meant he parents would keep the child while we got to know each other.

I know what people are thinking, i barely know this prson, and thats true.

I am just wondering if this is an issue that I can get over to make me want to know her more.

Now I know why such a beautiful smart woman was having issues finding a good man.

This is  a good lesson to all,  If you find a beautiful young smart woman who seems to be alone and looking for a man, usually there is a reason.

I like this girl and was going to have her visit me when I go to the Ukraine, but her son definately makes the outlook cloudy.

I dated a local RW who had a friend in Russia with a disabled son and she told me men tend to disappear on her friend when her friend tells them about her disabled son. Don't feel bad if you got to let the woman go but don't just disappear like most men. Tell her you're not prepared mentally and/or fiancially to take care of a disabled person.

Some people may assume she's a bad woman since she is willing to marry a foreign man and leave her child behind but I don't think so. She is honest with you about her son and I think if she comes America, she will work and send some home to take care of her son and parents.

What matters most is how you would feel with them. I don't know where you live but where I live around Seattle immigrants have no problems.

I am having a discussion about her son, other men ansd her experiences.  i would never just disappear.

another thing that crossed my mind was that if this woamn had another kid, like with me,  would the chances of the child being disabled go up ?  Like is it genetic.  I might sound evil for thinking about that stuff but I want to optimize my chances of having the option of a healthy family.

Leaving her disabled kid behind is not an option, that I like.  If I commit to a woman, id like to think that I commit to the whole shebang.   I am 99% sure that the medical care hear is better than in Armenia.

Thanks for the advice Billy, it is really good stuff and these are hard things for me to consider.

But it is a great learning experience.

She makes 300 us dollars pr month, 3600 per year, thanks for a 6 day 60 hour work week, still that's double what the people that i know in China make.

Thanks again, DC

Mendeleyev,
Perfect description, as if you are Armenian.  The genocide was horrible and somehow went mostly unnoticed by the world.  Percentagewise, it was comparable to the Holocaust.
At one time I collected and sold antique Caucasian rugs, and I befriended one Armenian in the business.   I got to know him well.   I do not know if it is their religion but they are certainly more enjoyable than their Muslim neighbors.
There sense of family values is as strong and conservative as their Muslim neighbors.  Don, if you do go to Armenia, do not do anything to cross this woman or her brothers and male cousins will pay you a visit.

Don, you are just going to have to go over there and see if you and her and her son are compatible together. Who knows you might like him. Now the mother might appreciate you more and be a more loyal wife if you were to become a good father to her son. I would think it would up your odds for your wife to be to be a keeper or not becoming a woman looking for a BBD as many RW coming to the US are.

I would wonder what changes to a normal married life would be with a stepson with disabilities. Would she expect to sleep with him and not you when you go to bed at night? Would she expect you to spend your every last dime on his treatment and drive you to bankruptcy? Could an arrangement be worked out with the grandparents to care for him for part of the year? Say for 3-4 months a year? To give you a break or at the first several months of your newly wed days? I would be sizing these up while I was doing the getting to know you phase. Also I would be cautious of jumping in the sack with mom too quickly as this has a tendency to scramble your thinking.

Good luck!

IMHO, you are putting the cart well wayyyy before the horse. If "you" know at this point "you" can't deal with her disabled or ill child, back away now. Whats the point?

However, if she held your interest up to that point, your life might be full of regret if you don't meet her. Quite frankly, you appear to be envisioning your life with this woman, played out scenarios and you haven't even met her yet. IMO, there will be a time for you to consider such things but, that time isn't now. She's only a pen pal. If you're interested, meet her. If you're not interested based on her child, cut it off now.

It's possible you could click, fall in love and the child's condition would matter not. Relationships have to work for everyone involved or they cease to be relationships. But, you don't have one of those yet.
