one way flights
« on: April 24, 2006, 03:57:32 PM »
Hi all,

I am in the middle of the K1 process, expecting to have it done around the end of summer.  I have some questions about flights.  How do you get a one way flight from Moscow to the US.  I tried on Orbitz and others and they say they cannot.  Also, my girlfriend will bring her 6 year old and he will start school here in California.  Can he start right away or must we do something?   Do we have to be married for him to start school?  One final question, in California, can she drive if she has an international driver's license?  Thanks for all you help.

re: one-way flights... You're not going to save any $ by purchasing a  one-way ticket, and you might score some trust points if you inform  your girl that you're giving her an opportunity to return home should  things not work out. Ideally, you'll just discard the 2nd leg of the  trip after you get married.

You might do better dealing with an FSU specific travel agent, whether you choose one-way or round-trip. Several we have used in the past with excellent results include:

http://www.nedorogo.com/default2.asp (Russia House - Miami office - ask for Svyetlana)

http://www.russianconsulting.com/ (NYC - ask for Natasha)

http://www.east-west-tours.com/ (Seattle - ask for Alex)

http://www.go-russia.com/ (Peace Travel - Las Vegas - ask for Andrei) ESPECIALLY good with FSU domestic flights!

Others have had good luck with:

http://www.travel2russia.com/hotelind.htm (Red Star Travel - Seattle)

http://www.gotorussia.net/ (Atlanta)

You might also have her check out : http://avia.travel.ru/

I've probably missed a few, but this will get you started ;)

The best source of tickets I have found is http://www.mobissimo.com/search_airfare.php

They give you multiple flight choices from 152 different sites.  And yes, you can configure it to give you one-way as well as multiple stop tickets..

Good luck!

I have seen a lot of one way flights that were half the price of a round trip.  Try www.kayak.com and you might be surprised.   When I brought my former fiancee to ameria, I bought a round trip ticket for about $ 1000.00 with the idea of throwing away the return because I thought I could not do a one way economicaly.   When she decided to go back I got her a one way ticket for under $ 500.00 on Kayak.
