Welcome, Droog. It was a bit over 11 years ago that I was distracted by an online photo of my future wife, so I guess I'm one of those veterans. That sort of status, though, hardly makes one an expert as processes, trends, and even long distance dating techniques change gradually and steadily over time.
 
Patience and discernment are two key tools that have withstood time's test. Some things never go out of style. Listen to the many here who have recently married, or are presently dating - then weigh in with your own values and priorities.
