On-Line Purchases Delivered to RW home
« on: September 03, 2012, 05:43:14 PM »
Does anyone have experience with on-line purchases delivered to a RW in a provincial city (Saratov).? I have had flowers delivered but she has a birthday coming up and I thinking about something different. Is there anything like we have here in the US where we can just go on-line and make a purchase at just about any store and have it delivered.

Mighty risky. Of course it largely depends on the courier and the packaging and sometimes that isn't enough. My advice is to send the flowers and some cake or chocolate and save the "something extra" until you see her again.

I have sent many packages to Russia and all of them arrived intact. They were sent by me with little to no declaration, plain package and small amount of insurance (for tracking). Obvious packages/packing containing something valuable often do not arrive or arrive molested. Very risky to online purchase and send there. Are you feeling lucky?

I've used this company numerous times for flowers and they've always come through. They do personalized orders and say they can do the impossible. Talk to them about buying the gift you need and pay them for it and they will probably use an affiliate flower company in Saratov to make the purchase and deliver on the day you want.

One reliable shipper, to  Russia and FSU countries..

http://meest.us/

It also has the possibilty for Russian users to order  in ebay auctions etc,
and from companies that don't deliver to the USSR , but  allows a US address and then forwarding.

As GOB says, the mail is very safe.

Amazon and Ebay, etc, are another animal entirely. There are additional customs hangups, sometimes months in duration, for third party online purchase/deliveries.

We use our USA address and have items purchased online shipped via US mail when we're in Russia. It is just peace of mind and not having to wait forever and ever for something to eventually arrive.

Flowers and chocolates from a Russian delivery service are okay and generally worry-free.
