VSC K1/K2 Processing Times
« on: August 01, 2012, 09:31:51 AM »
Hi all,

I just wanted to find out how long it is taking you guys. The Vermont Service Center claims a 5 month average processing time. I received NOA 1 on 6 Feb 2012. It is now 1 aug 12. It is almost 6 months. I check at the USCIS website, and it still says "Initial Review" as the status. How long has it been taking you guys?  We are going crazy with all of the waiting. I am interested to hear your stories.

Many thanks,
Cteas

If I recall ours took about 5-6 months. The USCIS site was not useful in letting us know how far along we were. We just received the letter in the mail one day out of the blue.

Our initial filing was in Feb last year and my wife arrived in November. That included a month for her to wrap things up at home and prepare for her arrival.

I sent my K1 package in early June and from all of my checking, it appears that 5-6 months till you get the NOA2 is about right.

Wow, things have really slowed down.  I just went and checked some timelines to see how long it was taking now and it looks like about 6 months at VT is about the norm right now.  Way back when I did it the time in the VT center was 3-6 weeks.
The good news is the NVC and Embassy seem to be moving a little faster than they did but that won't make up for the long wait.
When my wife and I did ours everything went fast up to NVC then we got put on A/R for about 5 months.  Ours ended up taking nearly 10 months.
Good luck and keep us posted.  We will be rooting for you.

If your time is past the current stated time wait on the USCIS website, you should give them a call. When I sent the application in the stated wait time was 6-8 months. One month later it was 2-4 months. Mine took just a few days shy of 12 months. In fact it was two weeks after I finally spoke to the liason in my Senator's office. Maybe just a coincidence I never did find out for sure.

Never a request from them for more evidence or more information. Nothing at all from them except letters stating that they were sending it from one city to another for processing. Nobody knows and I suspect even they do not know why some applications get stuck in an endless loop. The squeaky wheel will eventually get some grease if you squeak loud and long enough.

If I don't hear from them in the next week, I will get my lawyer to find out. (Yes, I'm using a lawyer).  We are at 6 months like my previous post says. I havn't received anything about our case being sent anywhere, much less in a loop. I know how the government can be about "losing" things. I have worked for them as a contractor.

Why not just phone the USCIS and enquire about it? If you got the N0A1 then you can call them and give them the receipt number. I registed at the USCIS website and occasionally check in with this receipt #. I myself believe that lawyers just tend to complicate the procees even more but good luck.

I do think you will be hearing something soon.  The timelines that I checked seem to be running right about 6 months.  Using a lawyer usually slows things down a bit so that could be part of the problem as well.  I think you are making a good decision to contact the lawyer if you don't hear anything in the next week.

Using a lawyer might well be your mistake. Yeah, you can blame him if things go wrong but, he's not doing anything for you that you can't do yourself. NOA1 is nothing more than a notice that they received the petition. You can use the receipt number to follow your case online. The problem with that is, they'll update it once and say it's in processing and likely not update it again until after you receive the results (which you already know by then) which is what they did with mine.

After we made the 8 month mark I had weekly meetings at my local USCIS which I scheduled every week online. This was a 220 mile round trip for me every week. I did get updates there that were never posted online. If nothing else I was going to make sure I was in someone's face on a regular basis so they could lie to me in person.

If you are past your processing time and you have not heard from them, you are in a loop. For whatever reason someone has stopped working on it if, they have even started. Legitimately or for no reason at all. It doesn't matter but, the end result is the same. I strongly believed then and I do now, USCIS officers were lying to me on a regular basis. It seem to be for no purpose other than them acting like they knew what they were doing, when they didn't. Take that for what you will

There were a couple of guys posting at RWD that sent their petitions in just weeks after I did to the very same office in Vermont, theirs was processed and sent for an interview in 4 months. There is no rhyme or reason, just the way it is. There are other stories on VJ where some are as long as two years
