Just realize it's a package deal where you take second place to the kids..  Take it from a guy that's doing it day in and day out (IMHO not RW/UW related).

On one side I am sure a prospective wife with child will be more serious about the venture as she (should) consider the future welfare of her child.  The heightened dependency roles involved can be attractive for the man involved.

On the other hand what about future children? We both wanted another child and our timeline (barely) supported our desires.  A young woman may want another child.

Are you ready for another rugrat?

Can't say I'm completely comfortable with this notion of being in "second place" behind Nastya with Evia.  So far, I sure have not felt that way...  Yes, there are two of us seeking Evia's attention, but there are two of them seeking my attention as well.  Seems to me what I lose to Nastya from Evia I gain back directly from Nastya - generally with interest!  Of course Evia is beyond wonderful to me in the ways only an adult Woman can be, but even there, Nastya tends to tell me to kiss her mother almost as often as I want to!

Feels to me to be a net gain, not a loss.

The only real problem is the case of Russia and Ukraine is the "national pride"...

My grandmother was from the Ukraine.  Entire village pulled up stakes and headed for USA.  Natalia's grandfather is from Ukraine, same thing, entire village pulled up stakes, but they went to Russia.  Natalia claims families with more money went to USA, others went to Russia. My great-grandfather immigrated from what was Russian Turkestan, now a bunch of 'stans.  Economics, famines, politics, the Bolsheviks . . .
