Questions about a woman.
« on: November 29, 2012, 01:19:30 PM »
Hi all,

I recently began a correspondence with a Russian woman from a site called cherry blossoms.com. Does anyone know if this site is credible? I think it is because it is BBB certified. I approached this woman and we have begun sharing emails back and forth. Originally we just messaged on the actual dating site. But then she gave me her email. Every email she sends a few more pictures. The pictures are not particularly provocative or anything like that. Some of the pictures are of her with her dog. She is also a few years older than me. She has not mentioned me sending money or anything like that. She sends quite a few specific questions. Does anyone have any advice? words or wisdom? words of warning?

Welcome Devin, look here for a list of recommended sites to use:

Also Elena's Models is another recommended site used by many here. Just keep in mind that there are scammers and pro-daters on every site!!! It's up to you to use your common sense and good judgement.
Good luck! :welcome:

Hi Devin,

Welcome to the asylum...

I'm not familiar with that particular site.

Sending several (unsolicited) photos with each email, though not definitive, is generally the trademark of a scammer.  Asking quite a few specific questions is a good thing.  Does she respond to your questions?  Or is each of her letters comprised of long blathering prose with short replies to anything you ask?  Do her several questions follow along with the flow of the conversation or rather a list out of the blue? You can cut/pasts portions of her email into google and see if they pop up.

I'd suggest just taking your time and, if you are interested, begin to inquire about meeting in person.  Get her contact info - skype, phone number, etc, and talk voice/video.

The main question to keep in mind -- is your communication flowing naturally and leading in the direction of a real meeting?

An interesting thing she did was she gave her phone number with my asking for her number. She said she would like me to call her if I am able to. Is this a red flag?

I can tell immediately if she is a scammer.  If she has a small dog - scammer.  If she has a golden retriever or german shepard, she's a keeper.

Just kidding.  Too early to tell if she's a scammer.  Follow the rules set up on here about never sending any money and go along for the ride.  It's not costing you anything so it is an easy way to learn.  Out of curiousity what is the age difference?

She is 6 years older than I am. She has never asked for money or anything that. But naturally, I'm treading with caution.

Cool.  My experience with FSU women is that most have small dogs.  That was the humor in that post.  Cherry Blossoms is a traditionally Asian site.    Is this the case with your lady friend?

Hi all,

I did more research on the website cherry blossoms.com that i have been using. They offer the option to search ad text in google. I did that, and I think it is safe to say that the woman I was corresponding with is a scammer. The same text showed up in another dating site, but this woman said she lived in Wichita, KS.

The thing you should understand is that is is not important if she asks questions, but it is very important if she answers yours in a direct way.

Whenever you get in to contact the first thing you do is to look up her home town on Google. See if there are any points of interest and ask something about them.
If she replies with being amazed you took the time to look it up, you are good.
If she ignores the question fully, she probably has no idea what you are talking about because its not her home town...

Similar there are many other non-generic questions you can ask, and as scammers tend to send out generic long letters containing a mass of non-important information to cover most generic questions, it is pretty easy to catch the difference between a scammer and a dedicated person writing once you get the hang of it.

Last but not least: women in the FSU in general expect YOU to make the first move. While it is possible a woman writes you because of your incredible god-like looks and perfect personality, do not count on it to be genuine.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Why is it so "interesting"?

Dev, I was married to a Finnish woman four years older than me. Because of cultural differences, plus age difference, it felt more like, after we were married and living together, that she was 25 years older than me. I caution against that age difference, combined with cultural differences. If she is older than 45, she will, most likely, have  a 'life was better in the Soviet empire' complex.

Girls younger than 40 seem to mesh well with our western cultural proclivities.

Jon, in your experience do dogs willingly participate in the scam and write some of the letters or are they forced to do it?  :P
I have a lot of experience talking to Russian-speaking dogs so if any one needs help with that you know where to find me :)

My wife came here at age 53 and she did point out to me things she thought were better. And I surprised myself by frequently agreeing with her.

I agree.  It has been my experience that generally speaking there is an attitude split somewhere between 40 and 45 and up on this issue.  I have seen it so often that I think I can generalize on it.

I'd be very interested to know what in your wife's view was better in the USSR compared to Chicago?

Probably the blini and doubles ice skating.

Mischa looks like he already knows what to do with a RW.  Or he's just done it.

My dogs go with me everywhere.  Including FSU countries.  That might be a great thread to discuss sometime.  I have tried to help them conjugate the verb лаять, but my smaller dog Charlie, just doesn't seem to grab the nuances.   As for my bigger dog, Iggie, he writes most of the responses that I send out to interested women.  He has a built in nose for scamming.  He just puts it up their skirts when they introduce themselves.  Works every time.

Eduard, I envy you with your shepherds. It is my favorite breed, but because of my single lifestyle, at present, and multiple commutes to UA, I'm unable to have one in my life. Your dogs look great!

Thank you! And I'm crazy about dogs, GSD breed in particular. I only had one dog when I was single, and only made 2 trips to Russia to meet and get to know my wife. So putting my dog up with somebody wasn't a big deal. But if you have to do many trips I can see how this may become a problem. maybe once you are married you can get a puppy :) )) The black female on the photo actually just gave birth to 5 puppies 7 days ago so we are having a housefull right now!
