Going to Odessa

Hi All,

I guess I am at where all of you have once been, that is getting ready for my first trip to the Ukraine !

All the usual emotions, but it has been on the list for about 15 years. I was a Sonar Operator many years ago in the US Navy and have since than had an interest in the former USSR and other Eastern Block nations.

I have found this site invaluable so far, especially the Trip forum.

It would be great to meet a nice woman in the Ukraine but that could be said in any country. I live in Australia and it is great here.

I am interested in any memorials to Servicemen and women, it is ANZAC day whilst I am in the Ukraine. So I would be interested in visiting some of  them.

I have planned on being in Odessa for a week then Nikolaev for a week and have another 2 weeks before returning home, so any ideas on must sees would be great.

Both Kiev and Sevestopol (Crimea) have many war memorials and museums.  Also, in Kiev is a great Aircraft Museum with about every kind of aircraft the soviets used.  It was also my primary interest on my last trip to see as many as I could.  If you have not already read it, check out my last trip report. I think the museums start on about page 5.  Sevestopol is a great city to visit and accessible via train and other means.

Have fun.  Ukriane is an awsome country to visit, especially if you are a history buff.
