How long does it take?
« on: April 28, 2006, 08:03:44 PM »
This question has been asked a million times I am sure but I did not pay attention and because I am too lazy to go back dig through threads to find this answer I will ask it. From filling out the first form for K-1 has long does it take for the lady to actually show up in the US? There must be a range from say 10 months to 2 years?

Thanks

Peewee

It depends what part of the country you live in (NE, SE/SC, W, NW/MidW).
NE is typically the shortest at @ 4-5 months and NW/MidW is typically the longest at @ 14-18 months. Her country can also be a factor, but to a lesser degree.

The bad news PeeWee is that you are in one of the slowest parts of the country.  Vermont has traditionally been the fastest and California which I believe serves Washington as well has usually been the slowest.

Ukraine will process the interview about a month or more faster than Russia.   Clyde and I mailed our ap's in on the same day.   We were both using Vt.  I gained about three weeks on him because he used a lawyer and I didn't.   He gained those back and two more cause his gal was in Ukraine and mine was in Russia.

Yeah, I'm in Washington and she is in Russia. Seems to me that Jet said that he had a way to help me when time came for it. I am actually looking for the slower route anyway because I have it figured that I have to do some remodeling on the house first. Time and money come into play here. So the slower the better for me. Based on this time table I calculate that I have but 2 years of bachelor freedom left.

I talked to my neighbor today. She is a doctor who migrated here from Burma. I got some good information from her on timetable and proceedures  for the processing of Lena's training and degrees into the US medical system. The other thing my neighbor told me was, "It's really hard to do so she better be smart like me. Otherwise she won't make it." LOL!

Thanks, guys.

You are one of the few I have heard that want it to go slow.  Must be a sign of real love.   Mine was probably lust.   If I had wanted to use a lawyer and he would have told me he had two services,  the standard one for $ 1,500 dollars and the premium one where everything went by currier and it would cut a week of but cost $ 10,000 I would have gone for the later I was so anxious.   Lotta good it did me anyway.

I think it was around 5 months from the time I filed the K1 until her arrival. It was 8 months exactly from the time I filed AOS to her interview date. Only 39 days to go.

I think I am trying to hang on to my freedom as long as I possibly can. Lust has nothing to do with it for me. I am looking for a long time partner. Sex has only a little bit to do with it. So much so that I am considering flying her family and my family to a common location for 8 to 10 days of bonding and fun. Not so romantic is it? It is something I want to do because the last time that I introduced my son to his potential new mother they did not like each other. Since my son is number one priority in my life then any female comming aboard had better get along with the lad. Same goes the other way. If she has childeren then they have to like me otherwise there will be chaos in the house from now until I die from stress and heart failure.

PeeWee,

I takes as long as it takes and not a second sooner.

Depending on where you have to file you can get a good rough idea of the processing times at the following BCIS website:

Thanks for this, jb. The timing seems right for me. Nebraska seems behind the rest but for some reason I thought the process was one of years. It appears to be a process of months instead.

Yes she is still here! More information on timelines..

She had her greencard interview this past Thursday which she and I passed. Woo Hoo!

So that means...

9-16-04--- Wrote my first letter to her
11-15-04 (roughly)--- Flew to Russia

DHL Back and Forth to get Correct Paperwork to file K1 took about a month and a half to get all the papers together.

1-3-05 (roughly)--- Filed paperwork K1 Visa
6-5-05 (roughly)--- Katerina's Moscow Interview
6-16-05(roughly)--- Katerina arrived in America
8-26-05---- Married
9-5-05 (roughly)--- Field for Adjustment of Status and Employment Authorization
November 2005(roughly)--- Recieved Employment Authorization card
February 2005 (roughly)--- Fingerprints for Green Card
4-27-06--- Green Card Interview ( Passed Green Card supposed to be a week to two weeks )

There...that should give everyone starting out a decent idea of the time you are talking about for things.
