Just as possible your group was targeted because of the foreigner among them.  That would explain why the police were there quickly.  The Odesa police are probably the most notoriously corrupt in Ukraine.

Most of the stories about the police picking on or targeting foreigners are old wives stories! well in Russia anyway, I cannot say about Ukraine for sure. In general the police will leave foreigners alone.

I didn't say the police target foreigners, though LFU likely was targeted.  But the police in Ukraine are very corrupt.  It is not a secret to any Ukrainian.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Many who don't come back fall into that milk carton category due to the shame of having their idiotic ideas and plans challenged, or having those lead directly to failure.. but of course, it isn't the fault of the idiotic plan, but rather the scamming FSUW, etc etc...

Yeah, the forum could use a lighter tone sometimes but not to a point resembling political correctness.

How would you define "normal people here"?

I know lots don't come back for that reason, I see exactly the same on the dating sites, most are expecting a completely different outcome to their Russian bride searches:)

Still no need for a load of bigots to have a go at them? Its like one sticks their ore in the next follow suit:)

Normal people? As I said there are a few here:)mmmmmm will have to think about this one :-\

Anyone who looks outside their culture for a wife wouldn't be considered normal by the majority of people.

Yes I know, I recently paid them $10.00 to turn a blind eye with my baggage at the border control coming out of Belarus. 8)

Have you tried living in a village with a population of less than 3000, and it widely known  your always travelling to Russia to meet some women?
and the stories " Don't you feel used going to Russia and buying all the girls champaign" yes heard it all from a fair few narrow mined people who certainly didn't think I was normal:)
Problem is most of them are stuck in their shitty jobs still working hand to mouth, and stuck in some boring dead end relationship and are so clue less they do not even know where Russia is! :-\

I am from a city that has over 50k people.  I thought that was small but you got it beat. heh

Eh, I live a different type of life than most do.  I am also pushing myself more than normal to see how I can improve myself.  Most people are happy coasting along.

The more I do my own thing, the happier I am.

The reason I posted my comment was being normal is subjective depending on who is making the call.  If we look at the norm of society, most, if not all here would be strange.

My wife is high class and very attractive but nobody has every thought her to be a prostitute. What do you consider as "high class" in a lady?

Well I always think when in a foreign country you should take the opportunity to see how the others live, live like they live and generally see how life is. Not arrive and stay in the safety of the hotel, taking a taxi to a restaurant , do a few walks up and down the usual tourist haunts. Visiting those seedy bars getting drunk occasionally with the locals and a whole load of other things really paints a picture of the country you are in. Which is probably pretty important in understanding your ladies culture and people:) And its all a life experience.

LMAO, do what the natives do, eh?

Thank your lucky stars you didn't develop a keen affinity to Brazilian wimmen, then...Uakaris will undoubtedly look strange wearing thongs regardless of the appropriation of the specie name designation.

While you have a point from the extreme side of your spectrum, what I believe you keep attempting to refuse to recognize is the fact there is another viable opposite side to yours, even preferable for some/many.

None of the women I met in Moscow my first trip remotely suggested to me they hail from a culture of seedy bars and drunken company. I'm not saying there aren't ladies like that in Moscow or elsewhere. But they're just not for me. We all gravitate to our own personal level.

Heck, come to think of it, there's this gal who was raised in NY and actually liked the type you describe. Even recently wrote an article about it.

But have you ever lived in a small village ? My parents moved down to the country when they were in their early thirties, immediately they were classed as hippies and drug dealers >:( there are many small minded people in the UK in small villages:) A short skirt in a small rural village means a prostitute! the funny thing is my parents lived in the largest house in the village a 600 year old manor house.

"High class" I guess highly educated, smart looking and looks after themselves, beautiful , a high flying job it could be one of many things? It wouldn't mean a women who walks about in a shell suit? Or maybe goes to the super market in her pyjamas, as often is the case in the UK :D

Reminds me of a British guy I met while in India.  He boasted about being accepted by the locals and how he drank in the places only locals drank.  I remember walking by and seeing him in the small place drinking with another local guy I met.  Apparently, this place that I passed everyday was that local establishment he talked about.

The bathroom was the wall outside with a heap of garbage that you had to climb up in order to get to the best spot  for some creative wall writing.

He was accepted alright.  He was the only paying customer in the little dive.  hah

The hotel had a British breakfast buffet that wasn't too bad but, I was  mighty picky over it. My wife ate when and whatever. I think I might'a lost 10 pounds while I was there. I've never had that feeling anywhere and I have literally traveled the world over. That is until I got to India. If you've been there, you probably know. If you haven't it's hard to describe  :D

I have a couple of very good friends who are from India.

After being around me, seeing how I eat, how sensitive my stomach is, how picky I am with what I eat, my phobia about cleanliness, etc., they told me . . . don't even think of visiting India.

:offtopic:   My stomach is fine - it's my tastebuds that are so ultra-sensitive that I can't even have ordinary pepper on my food!  Despite that, I spent eight days on holiday in India six years ago, and lived to tell the tale.  The hotel where I stayed in Agra was happy to do scrambled eggs for me for breakfast AND dinner; the hotel I graced in Jaipur had confirmed by email before I travelled that they would be able to provide non-spicy food for me, and all the meals there were excellent.  Delhi was a bit more of a challenge, but a big block of chocolate goes a long way (NOT that way!  :D ).  I also had some meals on the express trains between those cities, which were also really good (Western-style).

Not one bit of a tummy bug, no diarrhoea - after being somewhat apprehensive before going (simply because of the potential issues with food), I really enjoyed the trip.
