Looking to date in Calgary, Canada
« on: November 07, 2013, 04:15:42 PM »
I want to seriously date someone from what was known as the former soviet union. I am not sure how to go about it in Calgary, Canada. Also if someone has some online websites then that would be great too. Cheers. I would prefer a free legit website if one exists otherwise a genuine paid one would be good too. Any help would be appreciated. I'm a 27 year old lad who adores the culture and values of the Russian culture.

I would just forget the former soviet countries and take a little drive down to Moose jaw.
There are some mighty fine girls down there!

In Alberta, head on over to the Ukrainian Heritage Cultural Village!  ;D

There is a relatively large Ukrainian population already in that area.  In fact, there is one town which starts with "V".. Vegreville maybe? I can't remember... anyway whatever the name is, there is a pretty high concentration already right there in your general area - a heck of a lot closer than Kiev.  I may be mistaken about the name, but some of the locals were calling it "Little Ukraine" or something similar.

Boethius can probably shed some light there...

Are they fraternal or identical twins?

The largest concentration of Ukrainians in Alberta is in Edmonton, not Vegreville.   However, Calgary has a growing Ukrainian population, mostly from other parts of Canada.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

BUT, the largest per capita concentration must be at the Ukrainian Heritage Cultural Village!  :D

Factually, prior to your post, I wouldn't have had a real clue about which area actually has the largest concentration, but I did find it fascinating that there exists a little town the locals labeled "Little Ukraine".  Furthermore, the first time I blew past the UKCV I actually did a doubletake.. WHAT? HERE?  I had no idea ANY concentration was there.  Typical ignorant American.

That part of Alberta was settled by Ukrainians.  They received 160 acres of bare land, provided they built a homestead within a certain period of time.  Many towns at the turn of the century were almost 100% Ukrainian speakers.

BTW, Misha is from that part of Alberta originally as well.

From 1914 to 1920, the political climate of the First World War allowed theCanadian Government to classify immigrants with Austro-Hungariancitizenship as "aliens of enemy nationality". This classification, authorized by the 1914 War Measures Act, permitted the government to legally compel thousands of Ukrainians in Canada to register with authorities. About 5,000 Ukrainian men, and some women and children, were interned at government camps and work sites. The internment continued for two more years after the war had ended, although most Ukrainians were "paroled" into jobs for private companies by 1917.

I din't know that.   Same thing happened later to US Japanese...

Yes.  If you visit the Banff Hot Springs, the rocks were cut by Ukrainian prisoners.  Many died.

You forgot to add Ade and pitbull to that Axis of Evil.  I'd add Faux Pas as well but, unlike the rest of us, he has the all important Gator seal of approval.

Now, imagine what would happen if we continue adding names to that list long enough...
