9 Things You Worry About If You Live in Moscow (Photo Essay)

if you've ever lived in Moscow, you'll understand ... it's not just the cold weather that you're worried about.
Here are 9 things vexing Muscovites in their daily lives.
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

10 if you count a Pussy Riot concert

~Think about the intelligence of the average person and then realize that half of the people are even more stupid than that~

I don't find these "9 things" any typical except for checking passports which occurs very rarely.
I was there many times, my husband was there once- none of us was asked to show ID.

The rest 8 "things" are dumb.

The passport checking is largely depending on how people look and are dressed.
If you have a Caucasian look (the area, not what Americans understand by it) or are dressed poorly as some tourists are, expect to be checked.
Blend in the crowd, and you have no problem.

Seen and experienced worse.  My list of 9 in no particular order (no photos so words must suffice).

-   Huge traffic jam at intersection with 8 lanes merging into 4 lanes in a snowstorm.  No cop directing traffic because police are situated a km or so after the intersection in lighter traffic  where it is easier to wave the baton (and solicit a bribe).

-  Walking near apartments in the spring when the snow melts.  Each day reveals another layer of thousands of  dog droppings to have accumulated over the winter.

-  Pickpockets on the metro.

-  A rat the size of a terrier at your feet.

-  Man passed out at apartment green space with no trousers or underwear, and the sun burning his bare popka.

-  Buffet at Chinese restaurant (now I know what happened to the rat).

-  The entrance gate to the metro (designed to prevent nonpayers from passing their genes to the next generation).

-  Crossing a wide street and a black car with a flashing  blue light comes out of nowhere traveling at high speed.

-  Deadly, large icicles falling from office roofs.
