EAD at airport
« on: May 24, 2006, 04:08:26 AM »
Does anyone know if JFK is still giving EAD stamps?
Flights to Europe will be problematic during the summer because of the World Cup matches; using the VJ timelines as a guide, we are looking at a late July/early August trip.I am trying to see if it would be worth the hassle of an extra leg to go through NYC, or just look for a direct flight to Atlanta.
Getting the EAD at customs is the ONLY benefit I see to travel through NYC

My wife went through JFK as her POE in early August 2006. She received her EAD then.  I don't know what the policy is now.  ???  I hope this helps.

Personally, I think Doctor Who is gay. All those gorgeous assistants and he never makes a move.

Back to the subject-----Now that we have a NOA2, we are getting closer to trip time.
Seriously, if she does not get an EAD stamp at the airport, what timeframe are we looking at for filing and approval?
Getting her mobile is high on the list, she has already said she does not want to simply sit around the house for months. Plus, a job would help hone her English, and meeting new people would somewhat compensate for the network she left behind.

Get her involved in ESL classes or if her English is good enough check into some volunteer work. That way she'll use her English and meet some people. Don't know about the EAD at the airport. Elena didn't get that. We got her SSN right away and it took about 6 or 7 months to get her EAD after we married.

According to: http://www.k1poelist.com/k1poelist.cgi
it appears that JFK is still issuing the EAD.  However, she will only get a "90 day" stamped one, and as a result, many employers will be reluctant to hire her until she has a regular EAD card.  By the time you get her SSN and she locates a job, it is possible she may have less than a couple months eligibility remaining.

Figure about 70 to 90 days right now, after you file the application - which you should file concurrently with her AOS once married.
