Batanova was hit in the face “more than 10 times” before losing consciousness, the Moscow Times reported, leaving her with facial bone fracture and concussion.

Dozhd, which is also known as TV Rain, is the only national TV channel to provide independent news coverage in Russia, and has been used as a platform by critics of the Kremlin.

Dozhd reported that Batanova is a member of an electoral commission, and had been due to work at a balloting station in Moscow during Sunday’s elections to the city’s legislature.

In recent weeks, Dozhd has been investigating the deaths of Russian paratroopers who were allegedly killed in eastern Ukraine. In August, Dozhd journalist Vladimir Romensky, along with other reporters, was attacked while trying to interview soldiers’ families.

These reporters were actually attacked by anti-Putinists because it was feared the reporters were about to say something good about Putin.

Point is, unless you have proof all is just speculation. To think that Putin is behind every attack on a journalist is pretty much laughable. The journalists have too high opinion of themselves if they think it is true.
