Introducing myself and my new discovery
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:40:59 AM »
First I want to say hi and introduce myself.  Michael Westin was a TV character and I use that name online to kind of keep my identity private.  Call me Mike, or if you want, Steve which is my real name.  I am a sixty year old married guy.  One time married and likely will be until one of us passes.  Been married 35 years.

I found this site while looking for Russian lessons.  I have become interested in Russian and Ukrainian culture and politics due to the fighting.  As a side note, I have become interested in the men who travel to find love.  I respect any man who is willing to put it all out for a chance at happiness.  After a recent post, I signed for a free membership at USSR-Star.  This leads to my discovery.

Even though I have put up almost no info and no photos, I have found that I am amazingly attractive, smart and many women's other half.  I never realized this since I go to the grocery store, mall and many other places and never have tons of women throw themselves at me.  Odd huh?

Thanks to all the regular posters for a lot of info, entertainment and enlightenment.  I hope it is OK to just lurk.  I am sure from time to time, I will add some small comment.  But since I have no real experience, they will be mostly to let you guys/gals know I am still breathing.

Thanks again.

Hi Steve! Welcome to RWD. Your honesty is refreshing. You might be surprised how many peeps will actually believe what they read in those emails like you've received

Hola Miguel. Mucho gusto en conocerlo.  :welcome:
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

I am not sure how I got my reply up in the quote.  Sorry about that.

One of the smartest things I read was on this site.  Someone said, ask what is in it for you.  Then ask what is in it for her.  Not asking the second question is where the scam begins.

So simple and yet so smart.

This is a good place to learn, including much about language. I include many cultural and language related ideas that are either similar, or virtually the same, as what we publish in the Mendeleyev Journal. The language pages there are primarily co-authored by myself and Sophie Tupolev (of Moscow FM105 and RT).

As for culture, here are some very helpful links:

Hello Steve.  Welcome to the forum.

The Best Western source on the conflict (in addition to the Mendeleyev Journal) is Vice News, IMHO.

How does your spouse feel about you signing up on dating sites? :o

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

She has watched a ton of the MOB documentaries and the Foreign Affair stuff on YouTube with me.  We both find it fascinating.  Believe me, she is more worried I will buy a new truck than get a new girlfriend.  If the Lord takes her before me, I will die a lonely old man.  I just don't see ever going back to the dating scene again and I am sure she knows it.
