Thought for the day Wednesday the 10th.

You ever notice how even the ugly FSU girls/ladies still have killer bodies.

No, not all but most.

Thought for the day Friday the 12th.

Are our American chicken's on steroids or what!  You see the size of those chicken legs (drum sticks) at Church's Chicken, you think that's natural?

These Ukraine chickens are smaller and over the years I have noticed a distinct difference in taste compared to US chickens. I prefer the taste of chickens not pumped up with the steroids we inject in our chickens.

Thought for the day Saturday the 13th.

Ever wonder about a sure fire business to open in Ukraine or Russia?

Front end alignment shop. And might as well sell new and used tire rims as well.

Saw a car today in Kharkov go through a pretty good size pot hole and the tire emerged at about a 20 degree angle. Although he continued to drive the car he began driving at a snails pace as I watched to see if he was going to pull over. I assumed he was going to drive his car home like this.

More and more nice, expensive cars on the road everyday. But the roads are generally in pretty bad shape. The center of some of the bigger cities (exception Odessa) are usually maintained to a decent standard but once you get away from the center of the larger cities forget it. And the mid-size and smaller cities, oh boy, pot holes the size to swallow some poor guy on a motorcycle.

Jack, did you see my post about the roads in Astrakhan and how the city officials duped Putin out of 10 million to fix the roads?

There is a logical reason why the streets in most cities are so terrible.  It's not because the Russkies don't know how to make a road, but because, and this was especially true in those cities which had a military base nearby, every Victory Day, May Day, Lenin's Birthday, etc., they held a parade and drove tanks up and down the streets.  The tank treads would tear up the asphalt and the next rain would create the potholes.  Patching potholes is a waste of time because once the asphalt seal is broken every rainy period thereafter will erode the holes again.  Then after the fall of the Sov's, money for street repairs got diverted into some politican's pocket and the roads were never rebuilt properly again.  The result is what you see.

They will eventually get it fixed, I'm sure.  The streets of Moscow are in excellent shape compared to those cities in the hinterland.

Almost all schools (grades 1 thru 11) constructed during the time of Soviet Union were built almost identical.

Thought for the day. Wednesday May 18th

Ever wonder why Russian/Ukraine women treat there men so good? I am sure there are more than a few factors and one reason I have been told by younger ladies, mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers was after the Great Patriotic War there were many smaller cities and villages where their were 30 women to every man, 50 ladies to every man and some cases in western Russia up to 200 ladies for every man as the war had taken such a toll on the male population. The competition for these available men, even those with an arm or a leg missing, was intense. If you were a woman fortunate enough to get a man you did everything possible to keep this man, to satisfy this man. Mothers passed these traditions to their daughters, who passed them to their daughters.

Thought for the day. Thursday May 19th

As recent as four-five years ago it was still fashionable to see men mostly wear dark clothes. Today, this is not so much the case. It's still fashionable to wear dark jeans and shirt, you can never go wrong wearing dark clothes, but today you see many men wearing light and multi-colored pants, shirts.

Thought for the day. Saturday May 21th

Over the last decade I have observed that to a large degree the fashions and dress of Russian women usually reach Ukraine women one-two years later. The short-short dresses worn by women in Russia a few years ago are being placed by jeans, designer jeans with neat little tears in them on various parts of the jeans. Last year the contrast between the many Russian women wearing jeans compared to the many Ukraine women wearing short dresses was great. This year I am sadden to say I can see a distinct difference in the great many of short dresses worn by Ukraine women being replaced by jeans. There are still a great number of short dress's being worn in Ukraine, and Russia, but not the great number as seen in recent years. The weekends in Ukraine would appear to be the exception as on Friday evenings, all day Saturday and Sunday the short dresses and skirts seem to come out in greater numbers.

Thought for the day. Sunday May 22nd.

In Odessa once a year, usually on the last Wednesday in May, you will see thousands of young students who have just graduated from school walking up and down Deribaska, the main street in Odessa, all day. Each school has it's own color and the young men and women proudly wear there school colored banners.

Thought for the day. Tuesday May 24th

The police can stop any vehicle for no reason. All they have to say is they want to see your papers. On a recent bus trip from Kharkov to Lugansk our bus was stopped three times. When I asked the driver why we were stopped I was told they wanted to check his papers. He was not speeding, made no illegal traffic moves, the police can pull you over just to check your papers. Each time the bus driver told the police he was taking American men and the police told him "pakaaa"   (good-bye)
