Hello Again
« on: September 18, 2015, 09:22:30 AM »
I have been away for six months, starting with a phone call from a hospital 3000 miles away;.

"Your son is very ill and he has  named you to make his medical decisions."

I rushed to Los Angeles and arrived  just as he entered surgery.  He did not wake up....cascading organ failure.... religious doctors saying it is time to pray.....

Two days later he pulled through.  The hospital staff called him their  "miracle boy."  He now has two birthdays to celebrate, his natural birth and Easter.

He spent 60 days in ICU.  The dean of his school visited him and arranged for his transfer to USC's hospital.  That  helped immeasurably.  My son is back in school and still with the same classmates, who helped him complete his projects so he could stay with the class.

He had done very well his first year at graduate school, winning two of the four annual awards for graduate students.  Will he be the same?   He is still in therapy as he underwent multiple  surgeries and suffered a recoverable neurologic deficit.   He is optimistic and not driving himself so hard.    Those are two good signs.

Needless to say such an ordeal prompts a parent to reexamine life's priorities.  The parent, not the son,  is suppose to be in the hospital bed entwined in a tangle of catheters, monitors, tubes....he is suppose to be holding my limp hand.  It affected me profoundly.

My RW wife was solid  support throughout the days.  Since my last post we have celebrated our fourth anniversary.  More important, she has become a US citizen and also passed a licensing examination for electrolysis (she knows more about electrical engineering than me).    My step daughter celebrated her first marriage anniversary, and my stepson is taking an AP class.  All is good.

BTW, my wife registered as a Republican.  We watched the debate but she gave up after 45 minutes (language barrier, political terms, etc.).

I asked who she liked the best.  She said, "Trump, but he needs to cut his hair."

Thanks for the update . . . but sorry to hear about your son's ordeal.

Hope he progresses well.

Via PM's there have been many theories postulated as to reasons for your absence.  Now, it it revealed that none were correct.

Gator, welcome back.  Sorry to hear about your son and glad it wasn't a tragedy.   Tell that Cossack woman she's a winner for putting up with you for so long!  Who said 'The Donald's' hair was real?

Welcome back.  You are right about how quickly one can learn to understand the really important things in life.  I am so happy for you that your son made it through and that you have more time together.  It is also nice to hear during the happy times you have a wonderful wife to share them with.

May God grant you all many more years together.

Gator,

Glad to hear things are working out after such an ordeal.  I went through a similar experience about 8 years ago and had a stent installed.  It is true, you re=-evaluate your whole life and re-prioritize what is important.

Tell your wife she has good intuition about our next president in spite of her language difficulties.

Ain't that the truth. No parent should see their child die. Welcome back and glad your son pulled through a near death experience.

Trump pisses too many people off and loses precious votes. Dr. Ben Carson is a better candidate for president.

Welcome back Gator,

We were wondering where you went, I'm glad things are looking up again.
I was working on various recipes of cake with a hacksaw center for you.  ;D
You see the metal in the hacksaw affects the rising process and I wanted it
to look great.

Who said 'The Donald's' hair was real?

It's a real hair comb-around spray job. If he wanted to wear a wig he would
have picked one that didn't look like a drowned rat. He could have done hair
plugs like Joe Biden

Ted Danson from Cheers with wig

Richard Dawson family feud with wig

William Shatner TJ Hooker with wig

Are you old enough?

Anyway   :welcome: back.

My wife got excited about Trump too ...made her laugh w/his rants.
