Putin's birthday

I did nothing this year. No email, no card, just zilch. I had planned on a simple best wishes sort of greeting, quite normal for a media member. But a post on Russian social media, from a Ukrainian girl who posted a photograph of a cemetery where Ukrainian soldiers had recently been put to rest, challenged anyone reading with the words, "Will he wish them a happy birthday?"

That post stopped me cold in my tracks. Just like those young men had been stopped in theirs.
