What character traits do YOU put in your profile?
« on: December 09, 2015, 05:33:32 PM »
For those who are creating profiles for online dating sites, you may be interested in what people read, when they are reading your profile.

I have always asked women what they liked and didn't like about men's profiles.  Almost without exception, they disdain guys who tell how many places they have been or what kind of car they drive or how beautiful their house is.  My take is that a woman wants to know what it is that makes up your personality.

I have always put that I am looking for a woman that is kind and wise.  While that may be a little trite, it seems to humanize me, even if the woman is neither kind nor wise.  Many think they are, but aren't.

What do you tell about yourself and what traits do you look for in a woman - and how does it work for you?

This topic actually came up on another forum that is predominately dominated by FSUW.  Most of them said they didn't like when guys had photos with other people, especially women, or doing activities.  A few of them said they didn't care about photos of scuba diving and things like that.  They just wanted to see nice profile type shots.

I explained that on a lot of American dating sites, people often post photos of themselves doing activities or with other people to show they are interesting and sociable.  That might be the reason for photos like that from, for example, American guys.

They thought that was interesting.

I used photos. Many. Showing my life and activities but not bragging. Pictures of Chicago and many others to give women some idea of how I live my life. Then after I was connected to my future wife I sent well over 100. Maybe some of this worked and was easier because my future wife was not proficient in English.

I'm trying to remember what I wrote in my profile back when I was searching.  I remember writing about my hobbies so that my potential mate would see if we had things in common.  I wrote what I was looking for again, (Athletic, Tall, Adventurous, Likes to Dance) so the person would would know (at least on paper) if we were a good match.  I put up a few pictures of me one at work and a few playing sports.  I do think what you write plays a huge part in your success in finding someone online.  I find it's best to be honest about who you are and what you're looking for.

The best policy is probably to understate rather than overstate.

I guaranteed nothing more than a warm home and food when I proposed.

Here we need heating only 3 or 4 months per year and our staples are basically pasta and tomatoes LOL

Better to let experiences exceed expectations IMHO

Good luck!

Never made a big deal out of my online profile...I kept it very brief...I never waited or expected to be chosen...I decided to do the choosing, and set up in person meetings quickly...most ladies barely knew anything about me prior to in person meeting.

I only wrote one thing:

"I have a lot in common with Tom Cruise, Robert Redford, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and Ilia Kulik."
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I rarely made profile and when I did, I posted a few photos and a few basic stuff about myself. Height, weight, etc.  If a woman can tolerate your looks, she'll be interested in learning more about you.

You guys seen those photos of women posing in exotic locations, dancing in clubs, and next to Italian sports cars? Out of the many photos they have to choose from, those are the ones they chose to post on the internet. There are men who post photos of themselves standing next to expensive cars, boats, and houses. What kind of woman do they want to attract? Maybe they have insecurities if they feel they alone can't attract women and need some help. Maybe they intend on catching a high maintenance woman for short term wild romance?
