A man or woman saying they will do this, or that, is not really valued.

This is the mistake you and many others on here make, assumptions about yourselves and your friends, then put your jaded views on others. You are not in your early 20's, i wouldn't expect you to know how fsu women react to me, because you and nobody else are me. I used this example a while back on a different post, but some of you really can't comprehend, or of matter of fact accept this. If a guy is 6'5 , blonde and blue eyes, athletic, young , good looking,he will get results different from yourself and me, so if guys here are getting stood up, don't expect me to get stood up.

You still don't get it, do you?  We "old fogeys" (you know, the ones over 30) are well aware that you will get different results when you approach women who are roughly your own age.  However, there are still pitfalls which apply to FSU women in general, which everyone has been trying to tell you about.  AGE HAS NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THIS!!!!!!  Try accepting that people who have more experience in this pursuit may actually know more about it than you.  And no, I'm not referring to me here - although some of it may not have been very useful, you've had enough advice from everyone else that IS worth paying heed to..

I think he is saying that actions, rather than words, are what FSUW look to.

I don't think this is necessarily a cultural value in the FSU (as is implied).   I asked the better half about this.  His response was "It depends on who you are hanging out with."  In his circles, your word was your bond.  But, I can see that, with the rise of alcoholism, this would not necessarily be the case in many FSU circles.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

A few years back I remember seeing street billboard ads for Mordinson Agency and several other similar services. In general, most of the ads of many agencies seemed to concentrate on the the promise of free photo sessions, English lessons, travel, etc, it seemed that very little was said about love, family, marriage, etc.

For a more complete and honest look from a female writing about work at a Kharkiv agency, here is a link in English: http://8monthsinukraine.blogspot.com/2013/06/here-comes-bride.html

Speaks volumes.

Interesting site with sarcastic humor.  The site translates two Anastasia Agency billboards:   "The Keys to Happiness... Inspire! Conquer! Win!" and "Attention! Lonely foreigners are looking for a Ukrainian bride. Please contact www.wedding.com."

A billboard for Mordinson reads,  "marry in Europe, US, Canada." The ad offers: "studio photos, internet communication and translation, English language lessons."   Scrawled across in Russian (the rest of the ad is in Ukrainian) "We want you to be happy!". At the bottom center: "for girls up to age 35."
