зубатка полосатая ( Spotted Wolf-fish?)
« on: November 10, 2020, 12:50:20 PM »
SC rarely cooks food ..

Tonight she grilled this fish - as she sought a fish that didn't dry out .. She wouldn't add a sauce or anything to keep it moist ..

She is raving about the taste ..

Is it a sort of catfish from cold seas ? Never heard of one, before

While there is little information to guess on, I will guess Sea Devil which has been rebranded as Monk Fish. Very tasty and with a firm almost lobster like texture and taste, it grills and fries well.

It is widely available in Ukraine.

No, it is known in English as "wolffish".  Monk fish is a different fish.  Wolffish have stripes and teeth (hence that "zubatka").

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

I googled it and saw the photo below (too big for this page) so I thought
maybe it was an eel. Also grilled eel is divine and they have natural oils
so it might not dry out. Some (not all but many) FSUW cook all the taste
out of things so I thought she doesn't cook, but she hit a homerun
somehow so that might be what she found.

Yes, the better half confirms it is an eel like fish.  Personally, I don't like eel.

Until ms 'feeds' us a bit more information we are guessing. I tend to doubt that Svetlana grilled eel. It is a seafood that I have not seen available in Ukraine. Further the eel family is not really native to the Black Sea.

I tend to doubt what was consumed is any 'fish' from the eel family. I am including conger and moray. This group of 'fish' are not exactly long term transport safe. It is not for nothing that both Judaic and Islamic traditions consider them unclean.

So we can have a understanding from Wikipedia is this page:

ms this is your usually MO please give something concrete so that we can discuss what was grilled.
