As Russia's forces get worn down in Ukraine it means that all of the republics across Russia have greater scope to break free. Russia simply won't have the forces to counter or at least not very well. The more that break away particularly at similar time the more Moscow won't know what to do. That's one way Ukraine can potentially win rather than winning outright against Russia by the breakup of Russia and with it Putlers ability to wage ear effectively. No doubt many of the Republics have grievances against Moscow and the weaker Russia's forces get the greater the opportunity they have to break free and make Putlers situation very difficult.
