Thoughts on Christmas/New Year's
« on: December 31, 2022, 02:52:15 PM »
Kind of wondered what other posters thoughts are on Christmas/New Year's. For me I'm not so sure it's sat that well with me for a fair number of years. For sure it's more of a kids thing for most I guess. For me it generally entails sitting around a fair bit eating too much chocolate and drinking alcoholic spirits with cola while watching stuff on Netflix & Amazon Prime here and there. Other than that meeting brother & sister & their kids plus present stuff to go with that. While it's nice to see family, etc I just kind of feel that I'm being funnelled through a process that isn't really me. I'm not saying it's not stuff that doesn't have a nice side, food, etc but if it weren't for my Mother I'm not sure it's something I would want to bother with really. Possibly I might prefer to send off cards with money pre Christmas and then spend the Christmas/New Year's period abroad, somewhere warm with longer daylight hours, maybe Greece.

To me Christmas/New Year's is starting to feel like groundhog day a bit, possibly for a while. I know of other single guys that don't really bother with it at all. If I found someone then who knows, tends to be the Orthodox Christmas situation. Not sure if I would want to bother with either that much but then a bit dependant on the girl I guess. Guess I kind of feel it kind of hangs around a bit whereas I might prefer more of what I want to do with the time of my own accord. Would be interested to know what others here thought/felt or get up to with this whole Christmas/New Years thing?

they have a word for what you're feelin Trench
it's called lonliness...

simple solution for it, is to NOT be alone...
you made this choice, so why are you complaining about it?
don't just sit there quietly hating your life
take
ACTION!
do something to change your life, make it better
be proactive
rather than just be depressed
consider moving somewhere, starting a new life

Well I was with my Mother mostly over Christmas and that was all good and well. Of course with a gf it could be different.

I'm not so sure about loneliness. More I don't think the way I do Christmas is the way I should. I ate way too much chocolate this year and similar most year, but this year possibly worst. I put on around 5kg so has reversed a lot of improvement from my diet. I'll get it off soon enough for my trip to Chișinău as I've got a good diet plan I enact. I'll do some work out on my cycle as well and that should help. The whole eating a load of chocolate, etc over Christmas I think I really need to not do anymore. I really need to make it a more healthy affair I feel. Kind of see it as a time of holding a good diet than a not so good one I think I want as my outlook.

Yes the chocolates were nice but not a good habit for me I think.

It is what you make of it.Learn to enjoy the good moments, and set aside your daily worries if only for a few hours.
Find company, listen to upbeat music, sing and dance if the occasion allows.
There are many times you can sit and feel miserable. Tak time off from that whenever the occasion allows.
Party like a russian, end of discussion.  :D
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Didn't really feel miserable at all just not sure the celebration sits well with me, my lifestyle, outlook these days.
