New EU Travel Guidelines: November 7, 2006
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:31:30 PM »
Here is an update I received today from American Airlines on international travel...

For added convenience on your upcoming flight, we wanted to make you aware of new guidelines implemented this week by the European Union. EU countries (including the United Kingdom) now allow for small amounts of liquid and gel items to be brought on board flights from certain locations.

Before packing for your upcoming flight, please familiarize yourself with the revised guidelines. For the latest updates, packing instructions and examples of what types of items will be allowed, please visit the link below.

We look forward to seeing you on your next flight.

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

Duty Free items purchased in the United States or onboard non-European Union (EU)** airlines will NOT be allowed through security when connecting in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland or any EU country.

Not true... but some rules need to be apply... "Duty Free" product purchased at any airport is accepted on the plane IF the duty free product are in a transparent sealed bag... the transparent bag need to be closed by the duty free shop... if you open the bag, custom refuse that you take it...

The only problem is that only European duty free shop are obligate to have these special plastic bag...

BUT it seems that Europe use these method for promote own business :

The items will be confiscated even if they were bought at a licensed duty free shop at the originating airport or on board the aircraft en route to the EU airport if it was flown by a non-EU carrier.

If you use a European carrier AND if you have the sealed transparent bag, no problem with Duty Free product buy outside EU... EU simply use the escuse of terrorism for promote own carrier and own Duty free shop...

As a side note---when I came through Kiev this past Tuesday morning, the lady at the Aerosvit check in told me "do not buy liquids or alcohol at the duty free shop"
Well, I figured that I would just get some water for the flight; since I was already in the waiting area--no problem right?
Wrong--the security screen immediately after passport control has been removed, you don't get checked until right before you board--so I had to drink my water before I could proceed
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Oftentimes duty free shops will deliver purchased products to the plane itself and the cabin crew distributes en flight.

Viking: But you still need to walk along the beach to find it.
