Hi, all
« on: November 27, 2006, 03:48:42 PM »
I'm new here and I'm not sure if I'll follow through with this and marry an RW or not.  I have a co-worker who was telling me about his wife from Thailand and when I went looking for information about that (just out of curiosity) I found information about Russian brides.  I've been studying Russian now for a couple of months, but that is really a separate area of interest in and of itself.  I enjoyed learning Spanish many years ago and I'm sure I won't regret learning Russian even if I never find Miss Right.

If you learn the language and culture of a place then you should focus on that place.

Thai women are tough and it is hard to find good ones that will marry americans. What you learn about Russia will not help you in Thailand. You will be studying something alien if you try to change back

Enjoy your search for a Russian bride. There are many fine women out there.

I was never seriously thinking of marrying a Thai woman.  I just meant that I was very interested in learning Russian for its own sake and I might consider marrying a RW.

Actually, my brother married a Philipino woman and I dated one a few times. These women would have been my second choice. My sister-in-law is a very good woman.

Hi octopus,
Welcome to the site from another relative newbie.  I learned Spanish many years ago and spoke it quite fluently before moving here to Ukraine and I found that it helped a lot with learning Russian.  It's still a darned difficult language, though.  Funny thing is that sometimes still my Spanish gets mixed up with my Russian. and having words like ya and mala that sound exactly the same but with completely different meanings gives the mind a twist sometimes.
I don't know much about Thai women but have met many filipinas in the hospital whre I worked.  They were always bringing great dishes they had cooked up and seemed to enjoy taking care of their husbands. With my Ukrainian wife there are some cultural differences that sometimes cause problems and my impression has been that with a filipina wife there were many more of these that I personally didn't feel equipped to handle.
Whichever way you go, I wish you well in your quest.
