Renting apartment in Moscow
« on: January 08, 2007, 05:29:34 PM »
I'll be looking to rent an apartment in Moscow in April for approx. 10 days.  I'm looking for anyone who has rented one there recently who can relate either a good or bad experience.  I would like to find one that rents for $100 or less per day.  I rented one about 4 years ago for $70/day that wasn't so bad, but that was 4 years ago.  Thanks in advance!

I rented a flat last year on Novy Arbat that was very nice, had great view of the street below, this area has lots of Casino's, so was a bit like Vegas. I paid $80 a night using GotoRussia.com

I highly reccomend gotorussia.com, my last trip I used them for air tickets too. I had a complicated itinerary but they handled it very well, and very cheap.

I flew from San Francisco to Kiev, Kiev to Simferopol, Simferopol to Moscow, Moscow to Volgograd, Volgograd to Moscow, and finally Moscow to San Francisco! All this only cost $1,750!  Not bad at all. They also handled the visa for Russia, as well as my airport tranfers. Good company, and very helpful.

Thanks Jinx and Dan.  Jinx, that sounds like it might be the exact same apartment I stayed in previously.  It was a 1 room with a sofa sleeper.  Sound familiar?  I take it that you were satisfied with the apartment?

I know that sleeper sofas are the norm there, but I'm not crazy about them.  They'll do (and often have), but I'm 6'4" and even a standard double bed isn't very comfortable for me and my gal.  I know that Rick Moncher has some nice apartments with big beds, but I was hoping to find something not quite so expensive.  I would sure like to get something for less than $100/night.

In addition to the apartment, I've also used gotorussia for my visa and was satisfied with their services.  I have not yet tried them for airfare.

No, my room had a full size regular bed, I am 6'4" too and I was comfortable. The flat also had a big screen TV which is very unusual, and a nice surprise. Of course I don't remember the exact address but it was very near a large book store there.

Hey, I found the link, this is the apartment, price looks to have gone up. http://www.apartmentres.com/en/apartments/moscow/embassy_studio/

The price has jumped up quite a bit.  Sometimes one can bargain, but when an apartment is in demand and it's "in season", they aren't very likely to bargain.  According to the description, it has a queen size bed!  Nice!  But, it's all booked up for April anyway.  Thanks for sharing.

Bluestem I have in the past used Moscow Rick. Olga and I rented a  very nice flat last August with all amenities sat TV, washing machine, phone, computer with internet , secure building, except for the drunk woman knocking on the door at 2:30 in the morning :o  I think we paid  $100.00 / night. Rick also has a driver if needed and can handle your registration, I found him to be fair priced and would recommend him and his services.

Legal,
Thanks for the info.  When I look at Rick's Moscow Star website, the rates listed for his apartments begin at $150/night, and that's for longer term rental.  I guess that I'll just email Rick and see what he has and what he could do for me.  I corresponded some with him a few years ago about apartments, but ended up using gotorussia.  As I recall (sometimes not so well), there were availability issues.  It seems like he did have some that he was renting for under $100 at that time.
