Well guys- immigration was talking about new fees coming and here they are!!! These proposed fees will be posted in the federal register tomorrow. Instead of flaming out here, flame out at your elected representatives.


FIANCEE VISAS- 455.00
Adjustment of Status- 905.00
Employment authorization- 340.00
Travel document- 305.00

OVER $2000 to bring a fiancee and get her a green card.

BTW Dan- if you want to change the title, feel free. But, I was at a loss to describe it in any other fashion.



 Take a look tomorrow when it is posted. It is shocking. BTW, the document is 106 pages. You can see that they have a lot of explaining to do.

Note- some of these fees will be combined for the initial filings. The AOS fee will cover an initial work authorization, for example.

There are also some provisions for fee waivers but, dont count on qualifying. . . .

Many here over the years have contended that immigration fees are chump change in the overall scheme of things.

Guess what... - they still are.

I wonder if the justification is increased cost or decreased workload by deterrence.

In the explanations, they claim 48 bucks for informing the public and 19 bucks for fraud prevention and then a need for more employees.

It appears that they are going to waive VAWA applicants and a few other categories. Fee waivers based on means tests, etc.

The real story is cost shifting. Fiancee petitioners have money, unlike some of the other indigents that will be applying here in the US. For those that dont pay, somebody has to pay.

I notice that they failed to raise the 245I penalty fee higher from the current $1000. So all the folks hiding here can still work illegally and keep most of ther money. I would have pushed for a doubling of that fee.

They probably need to hire more help desk people who speak unintelligable gibberish for the phone lines. I'll bet they had too many questions actually answered in a way that could be understood and was helpful. Got to put a stop to that!  

And by all means YES! I am super happy to pay more to help out the illegals get all the services that they don't deserve.  :seething:

I read on the ever-popular Department of Homeland Security website (and hey, it actually was working today  ) that the new costs will offset the costs to improve service and speed up the application process.  Since the bar has been set so low, the fees should be justified with the slightest of improvements.

It really burns me to see these fees go up. The hotline is a joke (to talk on the telephone with a real, live person employed by the USCIS, you have to be extremely lucky and bend the rules of engagement) and I am positive that person interviewing us never opened our folder before we went for the interview.

And legal immigrants seem to be an easy target for this type of price gouging.

Kick-off in whatever form the new fees take will probably be the start of the new fiscal year-October 1.

If you people had any brains you would get your wife to file an abuse charge on you with the USCIS before doing the AOS. It's my understanding that an "abused spouse" can still live with her "abuser" while she adjusts status and according to William3rd have all her (your's  ) fees waived.
